Im not that mad about it honestly. I expect Mcbain to have a nice season, plus a high 2nd. Mcbain was once a very highly regarded prospect so I hope he can turn it around.

I believe this is the first ever trade with Carolina. I think we have made a move with every team now.

At this point you might as well trade Ehrhoff, because we're gunning for McDavid.

Anybody still think we can convince Vanek this will be a fast rebuild?

McBain has always had the tools.

Perhaps a change of scenery will help him. Buffalo might have acquired him at just the right time.

I'm surprised by the reactions in here.

Can we give McBain back? Want nothing to do with him.

Sorry to tell y'all this but McBain has been awful the past couple of years. He looked a lot better when he first broke into the league...maybe he can turn it around in Buffalo.

How highly regarded is Sekera? We needed a physical, shutdown defenseman...does he come close to fitting the bill?

But he's hardly irreplaceable. I liked Sekera, but whatever.

Why am I defending Darcy?

Always felt that the organization didn't value Sekera nearly as highly as the fan base does. Thought maybe it was just Ruff's influence but aparently it wasn't.

Shutdown? Most of the time.

Physical? Not so much.

He's a legit top 4 guy and a ES/PK minutes eater.

Great trade. I'd rather have McBain over Sekera plus you guys get the early 2nd.
Seriously get lost. Sekera is way better than Mcstupid.

Not at all, but he can move the puck up the ice and is solid in his own zone.

I loved sekera.

I'm kinda sad that he's gone. we lose a great teamplayer on a steal of a contract.

But we're loaded at Defense, we had to trade one.

So, Myers, McBain, Pysyk, and Risto all on the right side now?

McBain was 7th among Hurricanes D in ice time per game last year. 6th among full timers. We just acquired a bottom pairing guy on a horrible defensive team (2nd from bottom in NHL, 3.31 ga/g). Doesn't play PP or PK.

If Compher doesn't make the NHL, we just gave the Hurricanes free help.

If he's responsible in his own zone then it's an upgrade from what we had. Our best defenseman, Justin Faulk, isn't big or physical at all but makes great reads on opposing defenses and is rarely caught out of position. Hopefully Sekera can be something akin to that.

Maybe all McBain needs is a change of scenery. Buffalo's coaching staff will really need to work with him on staying at home defensively, though. One of his biggest issues was playing out of position on defense. He has talent to be sure but it was definitely time for him to move on.

So Sekera is better then an early 2nd in the best draft in 10 years? Sekera was the most overrated player on the team. He's a 2nd pairing guy, not some #1 or #2 top pairing dman. He had one real good year and a lot of average ones.

For reference, Zman5778 came into our thread (don't know if he's a Buffalo fan or a neutral) and asked for a scouting report on McBain, and I figured the quick summary I gave him might be of interest here as well:

Offensive defenseman with a great shot, reasonably responsible in his own end (when playing well). Had some conditioning issues coming into camp this year, and was in the doghouse most of this year, probably for similar issues. Looked like a star when he first came up, so if you can get him to work, he could be a pretty good player.
