What is the minimum age for an AHL player?

Per AHL By-Laws, the age limit for eligibility to compete in the American Hockey League is 18 years or over, on or before September 15 of each season of competition.
That's not correct, it's not 18 for players coming over from CHL or Russia.

It's 20. Unless they have changed it recently, which I doubt cause the CHL would throw a fit.

My understanding is that the CHL and AHL have an agreement where a player drafted out of the CHL can't play in the AHL until he is 20.

You're wrong. CHL and NHL/AHL have an agreement. If you're drafted from the CHL, like he was, you cannot play in the AHL until you are 20.

It's 18 if you are coming from an American development program....

Not the CHL.

That agreement is in place so that the AHL doesn't poach the CHL talent early.

Unless you're European.

Voynov came over and played as a 18 yr old in the AHL.

Ahhh ok so it's just the CHL that has the 20 year old requirement.

If the Kings can manage to get in the mid-to-late first round, I'd like to see them take a shot on Valentin Zykov. The guy is a power-forward with a nose for the net who has a tremendous shot. Very raw. Seems like a Lombardi-type pick.

So did tukonen.

However its not about nationality rather where you were drafted from. Since zykov is from chl he must stay there till 20.

Perfectly fine with him playing in Baie-Comeau next yr. I am just glad he's here and not Russia. This kid has character, skill, a great attitude and is determined. I have a feeling he will be a better player once he goes through the development program this Summer. "I want to improve everything". He is coming to the right place for that!

From the press release announcing him as the CHL’s rookie of the year:

“Valentin demonstrates extraordinary rigor in everything he takes on,” said Eric Veilleux, Head Coach of the Baie-Comeau Drakkar. “He is serious in his training on and off the ice, and leaves nothing half done. He is intense, driven and a perfectionist. No other player on the team possesses as much discipline as Valentin. He has a calm and quiet temperament and a positive influence on his teammates in and out of the locker room.

“Valentin is one of the most complete players in the league. He is capable of remarkable games and adapts easily to different styles. He has great motivation, unusual perseverance and above all an extraordinary talent. His determination and self-discipline led him where he is today,” added Coach Veilleux.

Courtesy of NHL.com:

NHL Central Scouting’s Chris Bordeleau:
“He’s an unbelievable talent; scores the big goals. He’s going to be special. Great skater, strong kid. Really a solid kid. He goes into the corner and comes out with the puck. He has great hands, can shoot the puck, passes the puck, does everything well.”

This kid sounds incredible. How the heck did he fall to 37?

And don't think that couldn't come into play with him.
I had forgotten about the CHL/NHL agreement. So he will be forced to play 2 more years in the CHL unless he can somehow make the team. And could that make him want to go back and get paid to play? Since even then if he is not ready for the team he will be making 75K or so a year in Manchester. When if he was able to get into our system and even play in Ontario for a short time then move the Manchester he would be getting paid and then could very well be fully ready in 2 years to make the move to the NHL.

To be clear Voynov was drafted from Russian league therefore could play in AHL at 18.

So, Kitsyn and Zykov don't have any obligations to Russian league/KHL?

Out of curiosity can they travel/live/visit Russia without any problems?

Finally - Kitsyn contract?

Exactly I see that Central Scouting Service had him #7 overall in North American skaters... Shocked then

I love the move and the pick!

For archival completeness, the cost was:

57th: WILLIAM CARRIER
88th: ANTON SLEPYSHEV
96th: KYLE PLATZER

Great pick and he's hilarious. He was already giving the reporters some sass when they kept asking the same question and over again (if he was NHL ready). He strikes me as a guy who knows he has to work hard and keep improving. Also, his English is good so maybe he can help Slava out in that department, haha.
