Tor - NYR

Ok guys, these two teams look like they *may* (MAY is the operative word, please dont start putting words in my mouth three pages from now lol) have difficulty signing some key guys. Obviously it would be around the trade deadline or next offseason, but swapping 2014 UFAs is the idea here. I toyed with Phaneuf but i dont think it would be prudent to trade our captain.

To New York:
Nikolai Kulemin
Morgan Rielly
JM Liles
2014 2nd round pick

To Toronto:
Dan Girardi
Derek Dorsett
John Moore
JT Miller

Toronto gets their guy to play with Phaneuf as well as a couple decent prospects in Moore and Miller. Dorsett replaces Kulemin, Rielly eventually replaces Girardi. JM Liles and a 2nd negate each other out as the cap dump while being able to slot in on the Rangers 2nd or 3rd pairing. New York gets a great 2nd-3rd line winger that is an upgrade on Dorsett, and Rielly's loss is partially offset by adding Moore and Miler.

Thoughts? Obviously HF hates the Leafs so i'd expect some bias against us here, but try and look at it from a fair player value perspective. It's a steep price for both sides but the potential is definitely there for a win-win hockey trade.

Girardi is a hard guy to peg a value on. I don't think he's the guy I'd be willing to move Rielly for.

Leafs will hold onto Rielly until we see what he can become in the NHL.

This is a typical Quinn/JFJ move.

The Rangers give up the best player in the deal, take on salary when they need to still re-sign Stepan, get older, give up two very promising, controllable, first round picks who are under 23 and on ELS, and don't get anything back that makes them better now or in the future. Kulemin would not play in the Rangers top 6. The Rangers don't want Liles (especially as a lefty).

Honestly, wouldn't give up Girardi for Kulemin and Liles.

Better story, brah?

Wouldn't move Rielly for that. Let's see what he can do first. I like Girardi though, not trying to bring him down as a player, would just rather see what Rielly can do.

Bad, bad, bad. We're trying to win now. Not only that but we give up the best current player in the deal, by far, along with two of our better young players. Rielly's nice, but we'd need more. Think JVR or Lupul for Girardi.

Rangers give up a #1 RH dmen - get no RH dman, a position they lack depth
Instead, you add a LH dmen from the Rangers, Moore, who seems like a solid fit and was a huge piece in the Gaborik Trade.
Miller is still a top prospect for the Rangers.

Toronto gives up a top LH prospect, while Toronto does have a plethora of young dmen prospects, most are unproven. Reilly probably has the highest ceiling among them and it would be better suited to hold on to him unless a trade blows them away. If they get to the deadline, and are a Girardi away from being a cup team, they may look into a similar trade.

The rest of the names really aren't discussion worthy, at this point.

It's funny with some Leaf fans, they complain about lack of high end prospects and being patient with developing them and now they have a great prospect in Rielly with a lot of potential so let's go trade him for a player who is a decade older.

I shouldn't have said twice it was a mistake on my part. But the Leafs are still giving up 19 year old for 29 year old.

Obviously you wouldn't give up Girardi for Kulemin and Liles. I wouldn't either. The Rangers are taking salary now but get relief in the summer when Girardi looks for good money. While nobody can predict the future, saying that Rielly doesn't make the Rangers better in the future is a little bit silly. The kid's one of the best d prospects in the world. Would taking out Moore be more fair?

They don't get relief really. They'll have Liles for two more seasons with a 3.875M cap hit for a player who the Rangers don't need/want. The Rangers do wind up dealing Girardi (Del Zotto would get traded first, IMO), they'll get better offers. Rielly is a nice piece. The rest of your offer does nothing for the Rangers.

Getting Rielly while giving up Moore and Miller would not make the Rangers better in the future.
