I guess that they are counting on the fact that he was injured in his draft year so he'd surprise a lot of people Will wait and see.

Your feelings mean absolutely nothing, and are only based on your limited knowledge of prospects.

I really wish I could just come to these threads to find info on the players the Habs draft, and not wade through pages and pages of complaining...

Probably an overreaction but I saw the other guys around him who were actually rated play.

Can the hater haters please shut up?

We know Timmins and his guys do this 8-10 hours a day.
We know we haven't seen all these guys.
You're not telling us anything we don't know.
You're no better than the people complaining about the pick.

Now, at face value, I don't like the pick because of how early it is for such a longshot. I would have no problem with a pick like this in the 6th or 7th round.

All the good things I keep hearing about this guy are really "don't care" facts. Big, great attitude, likes being in the slot. I. Don't. Care. Can he play hockey? How is his skating? His hockey sense? His intelligence? Agility? His hand-eye coordination? His first touch? His shot?

The thing is, these picks doesn't really look like Timmins' kind of pick.

so he should have drafted another 5'10 soft player like Maxwell or Locke or all the others small bust?

They kinda do outside of probably Crisp and perhaps McCarron.

My thoughts on Crisp:

Crisp has a huge frame, that he's filled out quite well and loves to play aggressive; however, he crosses the line far too often and tends to take stupid penalties. He's a good scorer in tight due his persistence and he also has some soft hands around the goal crease. He occasionally shows flashes of being a skilled player. Lots of character, too - blocks shots and competes hard.

But he's got a LOT of flaws. He's a terrible skater. Slow, lacks agility, and awkward. He's not going to beat anyone with speed and he's not going to beat anyone with skill either. In the OHL you can beat people with brute force, but will he really be able to outmuscle everyone in the NHL like that? I doubt it. I mentioned the stupid penalties and he's also not a top heavyweight. He'll scrap with them, but for the most part he doesn't fare too well. He's always working hard on the ice, but his offensive skill set comes and goes. Sometimes he'll look like Chris Neil others he'll look like a Junior B player.

Crisp missed most of his draft year due to a shoulder injury. He was a fairly high pick in the OHL Priority Selection. Timmins & Co. must think that he has more upside than I do. They must think that the shoulder injury slowed his progression and that he's just starting to scratch the surface.

If any of you get the chance, watch some of his games from last December. He looked unstoppable that month.

That makes you a haters haters hater

But I agree with you it looks like a pick that could have been done in late rounds. Maybe they were hearing about someone else interested in Crisp.

Now perhaps this guy is special and great, I hope theres a good reason they drafted him there... I just have a really hard time believing this guy is the best we could get at this point in the draft.
That's why they lace up the skates and play.

Avstin was well received. Leblanc was heralded. On and on.

The kid's got size and will crash the net. As always, time will always tell if this is a good pick or not.
