I hope he stays in the OHL for his two remaining seasons so he can play in a top-6 role instead of coming into the AHL and play an enfircer bottom 6 role. We need to see how his offensive skills pan out.

I don't want to sound like I'm reading too much into this, but I actually think that his goalie experience says good things about him just in terms of intangibles. He wants to help his team, he doesn't like not playing, so he goes out and basically humiliates himself for a last place team. If he loves to play that much, he'll work on his skating and could be very coachable.

I would bet on that playing a part in his draft yes, the all mighty "character". At the very least he seems dedicated to doing whatever it takes, unlike Ian Schultz who apparently is too lazy to even be an AHL level goon.

He is very big, and very strong, and a good fighter in the ohl. He is very strong around the net and that is where most of his goals occur, but not that great elsewhere. If he can improve his skating and put out a more consistent effort he is a first liner in the ohl, bottom six guy in the nhl in a few years (in my opinion). Also, he is NOT an overager this season. Erie's overagers are Fox, McDowell, and Abraham. So he can play two more years with Erie, and there has been some discussion that he may be on a line with McDavid and Dylan Strome next season. Using a third round pick on him was a little high but he is not the piece of garbage like some fans earlier were saying.
this is good stuff, thanks for posting!

Ian was good last season, i had high hopes for him, but he doesnt train hard off the ice and that's a major problem. There is like 0.1% chance that he is re-signed but if it happens i hope he learned from that experience.

the fact that we won't regret picking him puts my mind at ease

But I'm a Habs fan so now I'm concerned that none of our other draftees said that so the obvious conclusion is that they will all be busts

Crisp is the sleeper pick of this draft. He will have a very good shot at making the Habs. We don't have a 4th line Center with size and decent hockey skills in our prospect pool.

Still loving this pick!!

I like it too. He just seems like the ultimate team guy. He's also big and nasty. He'll go after a guy after a cheapshot wether they drop their gloves or not.

If they are smart they go for wins and beat up the rest of the smurf team instead

Loved the Connor Crisp pick. We had him ranked 97th. Injuries killed his draft year. Former 2nd rounder in OHL. 6'4 and 20+plus goals #Habs

#Habs fans can debate where Crisp was selected but I'm confident other teams were on him as well. Might have been gone where fans wanted him

I asked Trevor T about Crisp today..said he's a beast who is more ripped than he is...and he's 8 inches taller. I guess he took advantage of his year off and spent it in the gym.

Also one of the things I hear about Gregoire and McCarron - that they're gym rats.

I have to believe we were not the only team interested in this big kid. I'm sure Bruins, Flyers, and probably Leafs were interested as well.

It makes no sense to think or say, "We could have gotten him in the 5th or 6th round so why not wait till then?"

Are you sure about that? How do you know? And why would you think TT and Co liked him so much but no one else did?

I'm going to stay quiet here and hope our scouts know more than some of you guys.

Nice thought. We all want our 4th line to be physical, well, you have to have physical players to fulfill that, yes?

Armstrong and Halpern just didn't meet that criteria.

I don't know why everyone's trippin' a lot of teams were interested in him, in fact he thought Buffalo was going to draft him, he was at their camp as well as ours

Should make Subban happy that he might have team mates in the future to join him in training.
