''We always talk about scratching and clawing,'' Coyotes Head Coach Dave Tippett said. ''You've got to do everything you can to get points in the regular season to get yourself into the playoffs. Some are a little bigger character-builders than others.''

Mike Smith will be back in goal for the Coyotes after being removed from Tuesday's game after allowing three goals on 10 shots. Smith owns a 4-3-2 record with two shutouts, a 2.24 goals-against average and a .925 save percentage in 11 career games against Columbus.

The Coyotes have overcome two-goal deficits to earn at least a point in nine games this season. Phoenix also owns a 12-10-9 record for 33 points in games when they trailed at any time

Rookie defenseman Connor Murphy, who lists Dublin, Ohio as his hometown, will face the Blue Jackets for the first time in his young NHL career. Murphy was a Blue Jackets fans as a youngster.

Blue Jackets: Columbus received good news Thursday morning. Center Nathan Horton is expected to play in his first game wearing a Blue Jackets sweater. Horton, who signed a seven-year contract worth $37.1 million in July, has been out since undergoing offseason shoulder surgery.

Goals from Nick Foligno, Boone Jenner and Ryan Johansen could not get Columbus over the hump Tuesday in Denver. Special teams were an issue for the Blue Jackets. Their power play, which went 0-for-3 against Colorado, has failed to score on 16 consecutive chances with the man advantage and is 1-for-24 in the past seven games. Columbus has allowed three power-play goals in two straight games.

''We outworked them, outshot them and out-chanced them. And we still came up short,'' center Mark Letestu said. ''Our penalty kill has to step up here. That's two games we have been burned pretty good there. As a group, we have to look in the mirror and be better.''

Who's hot: Yandle scored twice with an assist Tuesday for the Coyotes and has five points in three games. He leads the team in assists (21) and home scoring (4-14-18 in 17 games)... Johansen has 10 goals and eight assists his past 17 games for the Blue Jackets. Foligno has six points (two goals) his past seven games.

Nathan Horton makes his CBJ debut tonight after missing the first 40 games from a shoulder injury. He signed a 7-year deal in Columbus this summer. That's roughly 9 more years than I'd want to live in Columbus, Ohio, but to each their own.

GO YOTES!

CLOSE! Didn't actually think Horton would skate 4th line minutes, just no idea where to put a guy who's making his first appearance for the season. Thanks for the update!

If we lose to a team called the Blue Jackets, I'm crying. Literally.

I distinctly remember a season when we were beating everyone else in the league...except the Blue Jackets. It was sad and horrible, but almost a given that we would lose every time we played them.

I'd have my kleenex ready, just in case...just sayin'.

I was cutting the Ice down at place called the Job 'gainst a team named Columbus Blue.

(Lame humor attempt with a 40 year old song. Go Coyotes!)

Why the **** is Smith starting?!? What happened to earning your playing time? Greiss has earned a start. Smith has earned a front row seat on the bench.

I can still hear "Outlet pass to Rick Nash" in my nightmares, followed by the craziest dangle and possibly the worst defense I've ever seen. Then again, that was Tellqvist in goal. I can't believe that was 6 years ago now.

2011-2012 The Coyotes were 1-3 vs Columbus. Win was a Smith shutout against 54 Columbus shots at the last home game. Need that Smitty to start playing.

Seriously it haunts me worse than the Ovechkin goal. It was surreal.

GUYS I HAVE A PROBLEM.

I've worn my OEL jersey to every game I've been to this year, and it's 4-0.

But I want to wear my Yandle jersey, in support. But if I wear the Yandle, and we lose, I'll have to take responsibility.

What do I do?

Yandle. But just accept that if we lose, it's your fault.

Wear the Yandle jersey outside the OEL one, obviously.

No matter what you do, you will get the blame for a loss or the credit for a win, now. Kind of like being a quarterback.

I say go with the Yandle.

I can still hear the obnoxious homers that CBJ had at the time on their broadcast. "Woah oh oh oh that should be a game! He should be gone! Weller is literally murdering Jackets out there!"
