The only coach better than AV that might be available is Tippett. I still don't get why everyone is happy, unless we actually get him.

I think it's the most interesting since this team is going to be going through the beginning of it's first transformation in a long long time.

Cause you can't force a team to be fed the same things down their throats 8 years straight especially with the lack of playoff success he has had a tenure as a coach. He never got the best out of the players he had at his disposal.

And somehow a guy like Dallas Eakins, who has never coached in the NHL before, will magically make everyone better?

Anyone expecting the team to significantly improve by changing coaches alone will be in for a rude awakening.

Our PP went from mid teens to the #1 PP Unit when we first hired Newell Brown so it is absolutely possible.

I guess we should have just kept AV forever?

Or at least until we knew there was a coach available who would be as good or better.

When a coach has lost the room he needs to be replaced ASAP...IMO almost anyone with a fresh voice and a decent coaching pedigree is a better option.

the only noticeable change we'll feel is when sportsnet zooms in on the guy behind the bench and it's not AV

a coach is only as good as its players, and as gillis said yesterday...he'd like to have an upbeat, offensive team but sometimes you go with what you have.

AV and co. were the sacrificial lambs

It was time, but I think replacing Newell Brown and Rick Bowness was more necessary. In the end, the whole staff needed to go and we can see where we land next season.

Tippet is still my top choice, in spite of him not currently being available. His knowledge of the division we are moving into, and the West in general, is key for this team.

Lots of changes on the horizon. I will just wait and see.

Except for the fact the Canucks weren't that good a *defensive team* (excluding the goalies).

more killer insider stuff from Lebrun:

Real_ESPNLeBrun: Canucks have a broad list of candidates they'll look at for coach. Some obvious names, some less obvious. Going to take their time...

Wow!

Gillis has mentioned that he plans on doing a lot more than just a coaching change. July first and the draft will be fun.

I know it's not like a top team like Pittsburgh went through something similar...

So many people think that with coaches it's about better coach vs worse coach. There likely isn't really a big difference between all 30 coaches in the NHL in terms of how good they are. It's entirely about getting a different coach, or the right coach. That's why I don't like the "Well, who is out there that is better" argument. Not about who is better. The team just needs someone different.

I'm finally happy that our 'good on paper' roster might actually have a chance to do some damage. AVs results (aside from 2010 and 2011) were underwhelming and I'm stoked to see what a fresh change will do.

Also makes me more comfortable in keeping Booth, new coach might play to his strengths. Or Roy, who looked so friggin' dangerous when he first came here before all the creativity was sucked out of him.

Agreed. I've had so much hope before each of the last two seasons and really believe there's a lot more this current roster is capable of.

I'm ok with one or two core players being moved if GMMG thinks it best, but I like the talent we have and am stoked to see guys like Kassian, Gaunce and Corrado get more opps
