Pacioretty : whats the deal

I have never seen a guy with such a weird goals to assists ratio. Clearly he can score goals. But he gets no assists Is he that bad of a play maker? Or is it the calibre of guys he plays with?

http://www.hockey-reference.com/teams/WSH/1995.html

Peter Bondra led the league in goals scored twice. 34-9, 52-26. He also posted a 52-28.

Playing with low scoring players (Joe Juneau, Michal Pivonka) or just ******* total badass playmaker (Adam Oates) will tend to lead to those results.

I could give a rat **** if he doesn't get a single assist all season long. He's our only pure goal scorer, I want him to score as many goals as possible. And let's enjoy having a great goal scorer on a great contract for once.

He can pass just fine. He has set up lots of nice plays but has one of if not the best shots on the team so who gives a rats ass if he scores more goals. Anyway he's easily gonna clear thirty barring insult or injury.

He's still one of our best passer, his center just doesn't shoot..

hes the trigger man on that line and the other players know their role.

Desharnais exclusively passes to Max, he shoots always from anywhere, and Gallagher crashes the net for a rebound.

DD is not a goal scorer. Gallagher has to do the grindy work, so Gallagher is usually in battle with an opposing player.

Well Desharnais doesn't score until the puck deflects off of him or unless he's in the shootout, and Gallagher is more of a grinder who prefers to create space and look for the pass. Gallagher and Desharnais wont score much unless they are parked right in front of the net. Pacioretty on the other hand, is a threat in most parts of the offensive zone.

DD's not going to score very many, Gallagher is snakebit, and the D don't get involved in the offense anymore. Most of his assists are going to be second assist on the PP types, methinks.

Well because if patches has the puck, he will do two things: shoot or bring the puck into the zone and then shoot.

See: Joe Malone
146 career goals and 18 assists in 125 games

Another era, I know, but you can't beat that goal to assist ratio

Wanna see a weird goal-to-assist ratio? Check out Adrian Aucoin's stat line from 98-99.

We wouldn't bash him. Just like we don't bash Clarkson.

We'd just laugh at the Leafs and their stupidities

he has a center who, since the days when pacioretty was in the AHL, makes it his life purpose to dish the puck. so all he needs to is shoot, and that's what he does.

and if my memory serves me right, he was known as a playmaker first and foremost prior to playing with david

Well I think he knows as well as everyone else in the team and around the league.

His strategy is shoot the puck when DD does the pass, it's been a win win strategy so far.

Pacioretty is a text book definition of what every winger hope to one day be. I wouldn't be surprised to see him post 45+ goals seasons in the near future.

Pacioretty simply has to increase his assist total by passing off to Desharnais when he's in a shooting position. That would make Desharnais the 50-goal scorer he was destined to be, I'm not bashing Desharnais, I'm pleading with Pacioretty to be more considerate of his pet leprechaun.

Ovechkin is 40-19.

Therefore, MaxPac is the next Ovechkin. Flawless logic.

MaxPac's line is set up so that he gets the puck to shoot.

DD is a set up guy, so nothing surprising there. The key is Gallagher, who does the dirty work for both these guys.

But man, MaxPac is one of the best left wingers in the NHL. Top 5 for sure.
