I was going to give some feedback as I was at camp today, but Blue Liner did a great job. Johns, Hayden and Svedberg really stood out to me. I don't want this to come across wrong but at times it almost looked like Johns was the ex NCAA player in a C level beer league. Not that he was rushing the puck end to end, but everything seemed so easy and slow for him.

Dan Weissenhofer also stood out for me, I know nothing about this guy short of he plays for Air Force. Very sound positionally, a big body and played with a nasty streak all game.

Good analogy for Johns. haha very true.

You know, I liked Weissenhofer, too. I'm not sure if he projects as an NHL talent or not but he definitely didn't look out of place out there. They seem to get pretty good free agent invitees. I like a few this year and I liked a couple last year. There was a d-man last year they had I liked a lot that wasn't back this year.

We have a potential dynasty on our hand here...makes perfect sense to tank in the middle of it!

I agree with pretty much everything Blue Liner said. Hayden was flying yesterday and wasn't quite as fleet of foot today. I don't think his skating is as big an issue as some of the scouting reports describe. He had some D zone lapses where he wasn't covering his point, but otherwise the puck seemed to follow him around the ice and he had a fearlessness and swagger about him that couldn't help but get you excited.

Johns is a stud. Instead of leveling everything in site like he did yesterday, he showcased more of his passing and transition game...slowed the play down on the neutral zone regroups/breakouts and made a few terrific two line passes up the ice. Also rushed it a couple times, which I didn't see yesterday. Looks very poised with the puck.

Fournier and Mattson handled the puck very well, but were prone to D zone gaffes...Paliotta and Holl looked like more refined versions of those two. Dahlstrom is solid defensively and makes good passes, but had a few chances to rush the puck and didn't....he got McNeil to bite on a fake slapper at the point, and could have walked it right into the slot, but took a weak wrister instead.

I thought the free agents had a very strong showing today...O'brien, Thompson and Lorito were dangerous all scrimmage and Downing looked very good as well.

McNeil looked better than yesterday, which isn't saying much...he split the D on a nice pass from his own man, but couldn't convert. He kind of leaves you wanting to see more. The USNDTP guys were good, but not as noticeable as yesterday.

Svedberg looks good in the way Blue liner described. I I was to nitpick, though, his forward skating and first steps are slow. He was closer than an opposing forward a couple times but got beat to the puck. His gap control and backward skating are very good, however.

Jardine was the only one who looked terrible today. A couple brutal turnovers...one that led to a goal.

I like that goalie O'Connor. Looked good both days...pretty athletic for a big guy.

That's all I can think of now as I wait to get my car fixed...

I'll echo your O'Connor comment, big bodied goalie and played well today but wasn't challenged that much. The pull the goalie down 3 with 5 to play made for an entertaining end to the scrimmage.

I have plenty of videos, pictures, and thoughts.

Does anyone want to see the pictures and videos I took? If I'm going to upload stuff and waste some time, I'd rather know it'd be appreciated beforehand. I'm not trying to sound snotty.

I'd like to see the videos as well. Any ideas why Danault only played a handful of shifts? Was he banged up or was this more of a we already know what he can do thing. I did notice the teams dressed 19 skaters today.

Make sure to use a Bieber song as the soundtrack for your video, Culk.

Not worried about the lack of ice time for Danault. His play is pretty much a known quantity. Better to give the others who arent that well known a better look.

Re: Some interesting comments by Blue Liner about McNeil:

“On the other end of the spectrum, someone I came away disappointed about was McNeil. I was only there today for the last 20 minutes or so of practice and the scrimmage so it's a small sample size but he was very blah out there. I don't know if he's battling an injury (I know he got dinged up earlier in the week) but he was very lackadaisical and borderline lazy out there at times. Had lazily and carelessly turned the puck over a couple of times and didn't show much fight to get it back. Very much looked like he was almost disinterested out there. It was odd. Maybe just a bad day but even on a bad day you can always control your effort level and his was pretty poor today.”

Admittedly, I’ve seen very little of McNeil, but I got somewhat the same impression, even in the pressure cooker of the WJC. His style of play seems very laid back at times, so on a bad day, he will tend to look very bad…. But looks can be deceiving, sometimes efficiency can be misinterpreted as laziness. It will be interesting to see his progress as a pro, but it seems by my first impressions that he will never be looked upon as a “hustle” type of player.

I agree on how efficiency can look like laziness, but I know the difference and that wasn't the case yesterday. He had a couple shifts where he did some nice things but his overall effort yesterday was definitely on the poor side. Again, small sample size in just one scrimmage but my observation, no less.

For those interested in the commentary of scrimmage going on right now can follow Kim Wrona on twitter. She is a good source for Icehogs news as well.

You guys are hitting on why I disliked McNeill as a prospect from the first Hawks prospect camp he had with the Hawks. He looked lazy and disinterested then....while guys like Saad and Danault were clearly busting their butts.

I've been busy with work and haven't seen any of this year's prospect camp, but I'm hearing the same things from other people that I've seen before. JJ's blog made mention of the same lazy/disinterested play from McNeill.

Hayden's scored 3 goals in this camp now.

I'm not going to make any projections about him, but I remember reading scouting reports about him before the draft and constantly wondering why he was rated as a 3rd rounder. After everything I've heard about his play in this camp, I'm still wondering. I guess it just shows how deep of a draft 2013 was, because players with his size and skill generally go as mid 1st or mid 2nd rounders, even with questionable skating.

I'll have to catch him in some Yale games this year.

If JJ says something, basically just either disregard it or assume the opposite is true

Im sure McNeil isnt lazy or disinterested. More appropriate is stiff or pylon. It appears he just doesnt have it.

Why? B/c he writes with Hockey Buzz. JJ was the Hawks writer here at HF before Brad Gardner.

JJ's rumors usually (or always?) don't pan out. But that doesn't mean his other posts aren't good or useful.
