The Oilers definitely like the BCHL - they've taken Khaira, Nash, and now Campbell in recent years (and I'm probably missing some guys).

No clue on this guy - he's big though.

Why take a guy like this over Bell?

Haha. You might want to recheck our GMs biography again. Pretty ironic statement.

Ah. Only read the first bit.

I'd honestly take a bid on Bell though.

6th round is a crap shoot. Nice to see Mac-T being brave enough to go with so much size. Only time will tell how well this draft worked out for us.

like the Muir pick, after being initially upset the Oilers took him, found his stats online and realized that he could be another great boom or bust type with a huge payoff if he ever makes it, and is the kind of player the Oilers continue to look for in the mid rounds.

Yes, as was Kellen Jones, and Joey LaLeggia.

Edit: Though LaLaggia was drafted out of college. Spent two years in Penticton though.

What is our connection to players from BC? Is Stu living in BC? Just can't remember who the heck it is now, but obviously someone is watching a lot of the BCHL for some reason.

They could just fire them all and use the fans\ known names for drafting..

Pick a Comrie , a Subban and be done with it..

I went 'who the F ' when we made our 2nd round selection... Easiest wouldve been to pick Jarry.
I guess damned if you pick the Jarrys and Morozes and damned if yo u dont..

Professional scouts who havent picked more than one nhl regular after the first round in ten years.

Winnipeg's professional scouts seemed to think he was worth picking up. So there's that.

NYI's professional scouts before that.

This kid has scored over a ppg in the WHL as a defenseman for the last three seasons.

Some people here actually watch these kids play.

Have you seen Evan Campbell play? I am sure Oiler scouts wouldve watched Campbell and this WHL Dman plenty of times.

Jordan Subban was ranked 55th by NHL and was passed up by us 3 times in 4th round..
We picked Houck, Platzer and Muir in 4th round while Subban was still available.. The 'professional scouts' provided the management all the info they could and the three selections were made.. I know nothing about the guys we selected and am not going to claim I know more than these scouts.

Im going to take a wild stab in the dark and say a player who scored over a ppg three years in a row as a dman in the whl is a better/more skilled player than a forward from a lower league who just managed to score a ppg as a 20yr old.

You bet. And I have zero faith in a scouting staff that has been as horribly bad at their jobs as the crew we currently employ.

Their record speaks for itself. Likely the worst in the entire NHL. The bulk of these guys have been around since long before Stu was ever named head scout. They make Kelly Buchberger look like employee of the decade.

To me its nothing more than a stab in the dark... There must be a reason why it took him 190 selections to get picked by a club. The guy is 21 already.. WPG took a chance on him because he wouldve been a UFA after this draft.

He is small. That's the concern.

But he is very skilled.

He was also drafted by the Islanders in 2011 in the fifth round.

Kichton has a much better chance of making the nhl than the Campbell kid, but for whatever reason (probably because Stu watches these kids first hand) we pick at least one or two BCHL guys every year it seems.
