**Flames 2013 Off-Season Plan Thread Part 2**

I guess I'll start with my crazy proposal.

Trade:

Cammalleri + Backlund to Ottawa for Zibanejad + 2nd Round 2014 + 5th Round 2014

Sign:

Horton ($30M for 5 years)
Filppula ($12M for 3 years)
Cooke ($2M for 1 year)
Lecavalier ($22.5M for 3 years)

Hudler - Lecavalier - Horton
Glencross - Zibanejad - Jones
Baertschi - Monahan - Filppula
Cooke - Stajan - Stempniak

Giordano - Wideman
Brodie - Cundari
O'Brien - Butler
Smith

Ramo
MacDonald

That defense needs serious work tho my God.

What do you guys think of signing Bozak? Seems like he wants an absurd amount of money.. but another young centre couldn't hurt.

CoRD, Ottawa would never make that trade. Zibanejad has more value than Cammalleri and Backlund combined.

To get Zibanejad, the Flames would have to start with Brodie and add.

Maybe take off the draft picks coming from Ottawa and add one from us. I really don't think it's that far off. But yea it will never happen. Would be nice tho!!!

Ottawa never makes that deal.

If I'm Feaster my #1 target is a Top 4 Dman who can eat minutes.

Ference might be the best guy to target.

Zidlicky averaged 20:59 last year.

What are the rules on picking up Keith Ballard. I always liked him, played well in Florida and phoenix i thought. With him on waivers that's a perfect way to pick up a top 4 D-man.

The rules on Ballard?

1. Don't do it.

2 See Rule #1.

I like everything except no Filpp, Horton and Vinny and no way to Ballard.

Funny, but he would be a good pick up. The guy can handle top 4 minutes if managed right, only has 2 years left on his deal, and would cost 0 to acquire.

Not sure how Ballard is a good pickup, he's slow as hell, overpriced, and gets beaten on a shift by shift basis.

Don't we already have Butler to heap criticism on?

Bozak wants more than he's worth. I don't want him.

This is interesting. Adds size to the lineup and doesn't shy away from contact. Can put the puck in the net sometimes.

Thing is we have a lot of this kind of player.

Maybe bring him in on a PTO? Not sure I'd commit a contract to him just yet.

Flat out wrong. Ballard is a good skater who can play physical, throws massive hip checks, blocks a decent amount of shots but can make bad decisions with the puck. Was just a poor fit in Vancouver's system.

I'd definitely put in a claim, why not? I'd also then trade Butler for a 2nd or 3rd round puck.

You mean re-sign him as a RFA then trade him? Is there a rule against that? Can't remember.

I agree but I don't want to help Van's cap problems.

I would just sign David Clarkson to prop up the RW depth and let a bunch of positions stay open for competition from within. Keep 2012/2013 draftees away from the NHL, continue development.

Glencross-Cammalleri-D. Jones
Hudler-Backlund-Stempniak
Baertschi-Stajan-Clarkson

Remaining 5 fws from this group - Reinhart, Horak, Knight,B.Jones, Jackman, McGrattan, Bouma, Street, Nemisz and Byron

Wideman-Giordano
Brodie-Obrien
Cundari-Butler
Smith-Breen

Raamo, MacDonald, Berra, Ortio

Clarkson is a more sought after FA than Iginla this offseason. How much money would you be willing to throw at him to get him to sign here, 6, 6.5, 7+ million? I'd take Clarkson any day over Horton and Horton will get around 6. We all need to face the facts that we won't be signing top FA's for at least 2 seasons. Our best options are to acquire a young piece via trade.

If Gillis couldn't get anything for Ballard, who would pay a 2nd or 3rd for Butler?

Butler has a better contract, is younger, and has actually played the last 2 years.
