Ryan Miller (Sabres) <---> (Canucks) Roberto Luongo - TRADE = "Solve the issue"

Any chances of seeing a trade involving Ryan Miller and Roberto Luongo?

Would it be a straight up trade, or would someone had to add?

Would it solve the "issue" for both teams?

Speaking from a Sabres point of view: No, Luongo doesn't solve an "issue" at all. Sabres want to build a young team to hopefully become a cup contender in 3-5 years..... Luongo does nothing for that plan.

They were saying that Ryan Miller wants to play as close to California as possible. Not sure how playing in Vancouver makes that happen.

What am I missing here? Vancouver isn't far from CA at all.

Nothing against Miller, but I think Luongo is the better goalie right now. I'd rather keep him.

It's a lot closer to CA than Buffalo.

none of the california teams are looking for a goalie.
neither is phoenix

vancouver's the next closest team.

i'm just wondering why the sabres would want to take on luongo's contract?

Vancouver is about as close as he's going to get. All 3 California teams are set in goal, and Phoenix just signed Smith.

While I understand why Miller would definitely find Vancouver a good fit, this trade proposal makes no sense for the Sabres who are not in a win now mode.

I agree that:
Luongo (skill only) > Miller (skill only)

BUT
Luongo (skill + horribad contract + age) <<<<<<<<< Miller (skill + 1 year contract + age)

I would rather let Miller play for Buffalo for a year and then walk for nothing than do a straight swap for Luongo. Now if Vancouver wants to send Luongo + youth + good picks for Miller, then maybe the Sabres eat that awful contract. It would have to be a lot of young/future ++++ which I don't think Vancouver has to give/is willing to give at this point.

Just roll the dice on Luongo. He is good and his window of skill (not contract) coincides with the rest of the team's window (barring a blow up and rebuild effort). You could always buy him out next year as well. He should be fine for Vancouver this year.

Outisde of California teams, given PHX resigned SMith the closest possible teams are Colorado and Vancouver.

Vancouver/Denver to LA flight is about 2.5 hrs---direct.

Buffalo to LA is a 7+ hr flight with connections.

Given the new divisions, Vancouver will be pplaying against their division foes in CA and PHX about 8-12 times.

What issue is this supposed to solve for Buffalo? Have we not met our bad contract quota or something?

Now, that would be an interesting trade to fit the pieces. NHL needs a big three-way deal

Why would buffalo want to take on Lou's contract? Miller is actually signed to a reasonable contract when you consider his skills. Vancouver would have to add..

Just out of curiosity. When's the last time there was a three way trade in the NHL?

Not exactly sure?

I know Tampa Bay/Colorado/Detroit kind of had one, but it wasn't a three-way deal exactly.

It was just Tampa Bay flipping a trade.

Wasn't there a three-way deal between Edmonton/Carolina and another team?
