I highly doubt Holmgren and Snider where calling every team in the NHL trying to swing a blockbuster trade just to make a trade. Also, I'm pretty sure Snider knows exactly how Holmgren handles things at the draft, was a big part of the game plan for the day and didn't go to observe Homer like a training manager at McDonalds.

What Panotch has is not insight; it's pure speculative crap.
Snider was at the draft to take credit for anything good that might have happened. He was all over the goalie upgrade until it failed miserably and he said it wasn't his decision. If a big trade happened at the draft, he would of been strutting around. The fact is he little input in the day to day activities anymore with the club. It's a lot like Paterno towards the end who would send in one play a game and think he was coaching. It is all Luuko and Holmgren now.

Panotch setting the stage to run Holmgren and Laviolette out of the team, be prepared for a new article every week all season. Wait for more of Randy Millers drunken bar stories.

This is what Snider himself said....

Obviously up for interpretation..Panotch may be exaggerating it but Snider obviously wanted to add his leverage at the draft. Whether that is detrimental or not is also up for debate...

Snider watching

Flyers chairman Ed Snider was at the club's draft table on the floor at the Prudential Center on Sunday, marking the first time he'd been actively involved in the team's draft day activities in years.

Snider, 80, said in an interview with NBC 10 yesterday that the Flyers are on "high alert" and his involvement was to make sure that the team gets back to the playoffs next spring.

He also spoke candidly about the Flyers' decision to buy out goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov last week.

"I don't pick the players. I didn't pick Ilya Bryzgalov," Snider said. "All of our scouts, our goalie scout, our pro scouts, including Paul [Holmgren], we had a meeting and I happened to attend it. Of all the goalies that were available, he was considered to be the best.

"We brought him in. He played well. He wasn't horrible. It didn't fit for a variety of reasons. It was a mistake. We're paying the price for it."

When asked about Bryzgalov's off-ice antics, Snider said: "I think you'd have to be a psychiatrist to figure out what the problem was."

Snider was on "high alert" not to crap his pants or fall asleep. I doubt he could name half the players in the league anymore let alone the top prospects coming out. The man is 80 years old. Everybody's mental capacity declines at 80 no matter how great they seem on television. He was there to seem important still.

I generally believe that Snider is watching Holmgren a little closer now.

I don't think Holmgren's job is in jeopardy though. The team he's assembled is very solid. We just need a back-up goalie and to be rid of the injury bug.

If we do get unlucky with injuries and our play suffers, Holmgren might be gone.

That said, whoever comes in after him will have success just by stepping in the door because of what Holmgren has done. That or he does something stupid to blow up the team.

Honestly, I trust Holmgren. We could bring in a lot worse, and that scares me a whole lot more than whatever crazy scheme Holmgren has brewing.

Not unless the government fronts some money as well to ensure any mistakes are covered by the taxpayer....like when he bought a stake in Bank of America among other dealings.

Warren may come off as folksy and a common person but he's shrewd with inside advantages we can only hope to have...

Having said this I would prefer him over Snider b/c he would run it more like a true business than a family run business.

....I still believe Ladislav Smid is the primary asset that needs to be moved if the Oilers want to acquire Braydon Coburn. In other Flyers related news, the morons are seriously considering Tim Thomas as their goaltender next season. Thomas, who took a year off to join a gun club and live in alone in a cabin in Montana, is likely a $2mil - $3mil per season signing, bringing the Flyers cap position to Infinity + 1. By dealing Smid for Coburn, the Flyers would create a $1mil in cap space. ....

WTF? Who's this clown?

This.....Buffet is nothing but an old money aristocrat with all the right connections. His dad was a US congressmen and bankrolled his initial "well placed investments".
