I'll go with Baertschi. He's got more experience than some of the other candidates and he's likely going to be getting top-line minutes and PP opportunities because Calgary is rebuilding.

MacKinnon, if he gets enough ice-time.

Or Strome, Barkov, Bjugstad, Drouin, Jones, Nichushkin, Scheifele..

Drouin benefiting too much of playing with Stamkos.

Winning rookie of the year is as much about opportunity as talent. Most of the rookies playing next year won't get prime minutes if they play for decent teams. Both Drouin and Baertschi should get big minutes.

I could see Mackinnon having a similar season to Kadri, protected minutes against weaker guys using line mates well to put up big numbers.

LOL a Predator player winning a media popularity contest. Forsberg could have a 150 point season and finish 3rd

florida managed to do it this year, although i think the fact he was a french canadian might have helped

atleast it was a minor step forward for the small market teams

A third line that only plays against the weakest competition and will still get 16+ minutes a night and powerplay.

Grigorenko, it's pretty funny that he's a game shy of being ineligible, plus he's like 30 right?

It's confirmed that he will come over and play for Washington in 2014-15. Not next year. Only after the Olympics.

Mackinnon is not going to get top-line minutes due to the Avs depth up front, so I don't see him winning the scoring race for rookies.

Baertchi is my pick for sure.

Druin and Barkov will be runner ups.

If Drouin and Barkov aren't on Stamkos and Huberdeau's lines, then MacKinnon will have a chance on the third line. If those guys are playing with top line talent and MacKinnon is with McGinn and Downie, I don't think MacKinnon has a chance.

I'm an Avs fan, and I will say Drouin.

This is because he will play with Stamkos, and will put up big numbers. MacKinnon will have a solid year and be in the discussion but he isn't going to get as many minutes and as good of linemates as Drouin. MacKinnon is not going to be rushed by the Avs, we are going to protect him as much as we can this year so he can make an easy transition to the league. Others who be in contention are Trouba, Jones (he'll be playing with Weber), Nichushkin, Strome.

Not to derail this thread - but is it a 'sure bet' that Drouin plays with Stamkos this year? Where does St Louis play?

Drouin will be the easy favorite to win if that's the case.

He could play in 2013-2014 after the KHL season gets finished, depending on when Traktor is eliminated, which could be anywhere from early March to late April. But yeah, no Calder for him next season.
