Would you want Filppula?

He's 29 and an unrestricted free agent. He can play the 2C. He seems affordable. Would you want the Hawks to take a shot at him or are you comfortable with someone like Pirri taking the 2C?

The coaching staff and upper management (meaning Q & Company and Bowman) really want one of Pirri or LeBlanc to take the 2C role next year, and considering that we have a good amount of NHL-ready C's (with Handzus possibly returning, it's a maybe at this point) I wouldn't see the need.

Filppula would be fine except that it will cost ~5+ million to get him here.

Bickell was the Hawks big UFA signing this year. I just hope they have enough space to sign Rozsival and a vet C on 1-year contracts.

He'll be too expensive. If he wasn't going to be, I think Detroit would have had him under contract by now.

Detroit is making a run at LeCavalier. Filppula made around 3mil/year but they moved him to LW where he struggled a bit. He's a more natural 2C.

Given his down year, he might come cheaper. Obviously I wouldn't want him at his old contract levels either.

That's another thing, his price tag will be too high, even with the newfound cap space. After we re-sign Kruger and Leddy, there will be no room for Filppula on our payroll. He may very well cost north of $4M, when we can't afford anybody for more than around $2.5M.

Yes, but I think there will be a high demand for this guy.

Did this guy even play C in the playoffs? Last thing we need is a guy who can play C but is used more on the wing. IIRC, he isn't that great at faceoffs either.

Pass.

Actually, I think he is pretty good at draws, like 55%.

He has played center his entire career except for last year when they moved him to LW.

This is the case. Detroit wants to keep him, but he wants a multiple year contract at 5 million per. Detroit has no intentions of meeting his demands.

In a perfect world he'd pull a Hossa and sign here for 1 year at 6M or something like that if we had the space after signing Rozi, a 4th line vet, and a backup goalie.

But otherwise no.

I'd rather go after Ribeiro if the price is right. The guy can win face-offs and has a nice mean streak in him. I also think he could be a potential 20-goal scorer alongside Sharp and Hossa.

He isn't a viable option IMO

Cost and he is better on wing

too expensiv and he is a Better winger than Center

if Hawks pick up a player, it's going to be a PP QB type of player

No, give the kids a chance to earn the 2C spot.

Not at the price he is going to command, not really as a player, and not at the expense of the youth in the Hawks' system. So overall, no, not really at all.

Filppula and Bozak are looking for contract extensions for around $5 million AAV.

The Chicago Blackhawks still need to qualify restricted free agents Marcus Kruger and Nick Leddy, while unrestricted free agents Ray Emery and Michal Rozsival still may be in the Chicago Blackhawks future plans, at least for another year.

Simply put, the Chicago Blackhawks can't afford another high priced unrestricted free agent.

Fillupa

Calgary should ink this guy. I don't think he's done enough to warrant 5MM. Maybe lock him up for 4 years at 4MM. He's definitely got some talent.

Not in the cArds for us. An I would think there could be better options for that cap hit.

I'm glad you mentioned PP QB, IMO its the bigger need for this team.

I think you can improve the PP with addition by subtraction. Get rid of Kompon.

It was bad before Kompon, we need a true PP QB. Kane sorta acts as one on the half boards, but to me it doesn't work like a true PP QB on the backend.
