Sure, I do...but I think the quality of players on the ice plays a much bigger part in how successful the PP and PK is. I'm not going to get hung up on who the assistant coach is when there are bigger issues at hand. Plus, at the end of the day, Rolston's responsible for the ultimate direction of this team. He's the voice. I like some parts of Sacco's experience, I don't like others, but all in all, meh.

I approve of this decision. We needed someone with head coaching experience given how inexperienced Rolston is. And you're not exactly going to be getting Mike Babcock to come on board and be an assistant coach.

Semi-OT: Is it confirmed that Teppo will be the other assistant? As I wouldn't like that move.

Being an assistant coach and a HC are two entirely different animals.

Sacco has been praised for the work he has done developing younger players. By him just being an assistant, he just has to focus on that and not all the other BS that comes with being a HC. Love this move. Assistants that are former HC seem to always work out better than the ones that get promoted from lower leagues.

My main concern atm is whether the comments of Giguere, regarding work ethic and attitude among his teammates in early April of this year, can be pinned on Sacco- or whether it was just posturing on Giguere's end trying to force movement.

I have preexisting concerns about strength and conditioning when it comes to theses Sabres. The usual suspects, man games lost, all that.

Why is everyone assuming that of the 3 assistants + head coach, Sacco will be the one in charge of the powerplay?

So do the Sabres go with experience in Rochester and hire someone like Gulutzan?

That's part of my concerns as well. He's supposed to be good with young players but the young players on the team he was head coach have been unprofessional to the point of causing a respected veteran to sound off about their conduct. That and his HC actions in Colorado do lead one to question his methods as top man.

We'll have to see how it turns out.

Avs fan here, Sacco definitely lost the locker room. Right after Giguere's statement came out, the Avs looked like a different team. The comment was warranted, they were pathetic out there, but after the Giguere comments you would've never guessed they were 2nd to last overall, and thats part of the reason we went on a small winning spree.

Sacco seems like a good players coach, but I don't really know what he excels at besides that. His special teams were atrocious, his lines were horrid and he gave scrubs like Hunny + Zanon the most icetime. He'd make a good assistant to the assistant.

I could be wrong but i'd place a bet that Sacco isn't a great assistant coach.

Chain: Your note sums it up. All I can say is thank God he's just an assistant. He was terrible as a head coach. Watched him get worse and worse over these past 4 years.

I don't understand this hire... maybe there's some past USA Hockey relationship between him and Rolston. This coming on the heels of the Sekera/McBain trade just leaves me dumbfounded.

As others have mentioned, have zero expectations for the PP. The Av's PP was terrible - from zone entry to playmaking to player selection. (I remember watching Cody McLeod on the PP... while RoR sat.)

I just have to ...

I don't think this is that bad of a move. He has way more experience than that clown Kevyn Adams and James Patrick. I think whoever they bring in will also have some good experience. I'm not gonna complain about an ASSISTANT

I can't see him being the PP coach, more just a general assistant to help. Provide NHL experience. However my mate is a Avs fan and was glad to see the back of him so slightly concerned.

as an Avalanche fan, I will say that Sacco does have one feather in his hat: he has done quite well at cultivating young talent. The under-25 prospects-to-players on Colorado's rosters of the past few years all performed quite well under Sacco's tenure, including but not limited to Duchene, O'Reilly, Stewart, Shattenkirk, Wilson, Mueller, Jones, Yip, Gagliardi, Landeskog, Elliott, Barrie, McGinn. His other numerous faults aside, he will likely do well with Buffalo's young players.
