BTW, Thomas is in the list of development camp invitees

So we will have reports on him pretty fast.

Don't know much about Thomas so hopefully management knows what they are doing, imo Kristo was one of our top prospects pre 2013 draft. (though that's not saying much) While he didn't look like himself in his short AHL time, I thought he was impressive at the WC's, he can do a lot of things in the offensive zone. Has a great mix of speed, passing, shot and stickhandling but the effort wasn't always there and off-ice concerns.

Personally I hate the trade, when I saw it I thought not again what's with the ****ing rangers and our prospects. I hated to see McDonagh get traded and while Kristo is still very much a wild card in terms of the NHL, I consider them not far apart at the time each was traded.

Kristo doesn't hold the same value as Niederreiter.

Wow this is when this board becomes entertaining in its lunacy. Kristo a sure fire top 6? Whaaaa? The guy couldn't EVEN look better than Hudon and Vail, JUNIOR AGED PLAYERS , in their stint in Hamilton and he's twenty freaking three years old. And this guy was ready to jump into the NHL???? Like I wrote, this thread is entertaning. Keep it up kids.

I didn't even had to check HockeyDB to know he was shorter than Kristo, i'm conditioned.

Rangers fan here, coming in peace.

I liked Thomas as a prospect, but he's small and not very fast, but has one hell of a shot! I just don't think he will overcome his size barrier, because he's not very fast at all. Good luck!

Yes but McCarron was picked way too high, DLR has no offense, Crisp is a bum, and Gregoire was a hometown pick.

What frustrates me most on a personal level is watching Kristo develop for 5 long years and then cutting him loose just when he's finally starting his pro career.

What frustrates me on another level is failing to address a need in trading him. Instead of diversifying our prospect pool or even getting an NHL vet, we just got more of the same. And, arguably, worse of the same.

Great... I can see it already. DD and Thomas on the same line. The playmaker and the sniper. Nothing can possibly go wrong with that!

I just don't know why people are so upset. Kristo was pretty bad in his short AHL stint (as mentioned before, he was outplayed by Hudon and Vail), while Thomas as a rookie had a .05 ppg and 19 goals in 73 games.

I wouldn't put too much stock into the 9 games Kristo played in the AHL, he just had his team get a crushing upset in what would have put them back at the Final Fours, and this was the reason why he returned to the NCAA so all that work only to fall short.

Personally I felt Kristo would need a year in the AHL but I think he could easily see time in the NHL next year and do ok. I don't see what's entertaining about this thread at all.

But..he's 5-8..how can that be? Pageau played well against us and is 5-9..how can that be? A 5-9 guy won the Conn Smythe..again..how is that possible? Who were perhaps our best players in our last long playoff run? Cammy and Gionta...hmmm.

Check out Detroit's roster over the past five years for one. It may shock you how many players were under 6-0, even on their Cup winner.
Rafalski
Maltby
Draper
Helm
Lebda
Zetterberg
Datsyuk
Hudler

Eight players under 6-0. Again - how can this be????? Simple answer - because a player's height means jack squat!!!!
With all due respect, height in hockey is pretty irrelevant. No difference between a 5-9 and 5-11. Not much between 6-0 and 6-2.

Weight is more important for many reasons of which I dont have to list.

Gallagher was our hottest forward going into the playoffs. He was shut down to only 2 goals and 0 assists by the physical play of the Sens.

Pageau was neutralized by the bigger and more physical Pens D.

Kane was the MVP and he and Toews improved their play when Bickell was added to their line.

I know what you mean here. TRUST ME. I've watched Kristo A LOT during those years. All that time being excited by how he was developing especially last year. As far as getting worse, it remains to be seen. And I would also love to see us addressing our mix. I guess it will have to come through somebody else.

I always get sick to my stomach watching McDonaugh in a Ranger uniform, might as well add Kristo.......ha ha ha ha ha

For sure, and I know you and montreal (and others I'm sure) have followed him way more closely than I have...it's frustrating, no other word for it. All you can do is hope it works out.

I'm starting to think MB is trading for small guys to feed McCarron's appetite. Kristo was just a little to big, we don't want Mac choking on a leg bone.

I really don't like this trade. It seems like it's based on Kristo's character. Kristo has more upside and is a definite NHLer at worse case a 3rd line defensive specialist. Rangers take us to the cleaners again. Stop trading away our players for their midgets we will feel the Gomez debacle for another 10 years because McDo was seen as having issues.
