Yes.

I don't care if DD scores 60 points. He sucks at every other facet of the game. You can't win with this moron centering your top players.

Pretty crazy guys like Halpern switch teams so much and might not be in the nhl next year, meanwhile Danny Briere has to narrow down his decision to 6 suitors.

Briere for 2 years to the Habs is slowly circulating twitter.

A good number is saying it's not true, but you never know.

I honestly love Briere and would like to see him on our team.

Just touched base with Briere. Still talking to a few teams and hasn't made a decision. Agreed with MTL - not true

What does that mean?

@Eklund: Montreal may be inching to the front for Briere. But nothing is done yet.

Good replacement for Ryder. He's a depth guy at this point, if he signs here i hope he can still work his magic in the PO.

Really had enough of DD bashing, anyone have a list of guys who make 3.5 mil per season unless they are on their first contract I bet DD outscored almost all them over last 2 years.

Haha. The Eklund kiss of death.

If this has legs however, I am very curious about term and dollars.

DD sucks and he's not a well rounded player. He doesn't offer anything but passing. A one dimensional player is easily beaten in a pro league.

We're talking about PLAYOFFS. (in my best Jim Mora voice)

Some players get you to the playoffs others get you through the playoffs.....

DD fits category numero un.

I have a sick feeling we're going to give him a 3-year deal. Don't know why, and I'm not a patented Bergevin detractor like W7, but god damn let this be reasonable if it'll happen.

Can someone please answer this for me...

IF we are in fact targeting Briere, is there any chance in hell MB would actually have the team enter the season with all of DD/Gionta/Gallagher/Briere/Plekanec in the top-9?

and then, if the answer to that is YES:

- does that mean he thinks he can build a winner with an largely undersized top-9, where 5 guys are sub-6'/200pds (and not one of them an elite player - this is a crucial point), and none of the other 4 are particularly known for their physical play despite having larger frames?

or

- is he content to ice a roster he knows won't likely have the wherewithal to survive 4 rounds of playoff hockey for the next 1-2-3 seasons?

if the answer to the first question is NO:

- who is he planning to, or most likely, to move? DD (especially if Briere signs to play C) & Gionta are the logical choices, but having just extended DD & being apparently a big fan of Gionta (who is the captain), could that mean he's more likely to move Pleks, or equally worrisome, Gallagher?

nothing about going after Briere really sits well with me... even though I am a much bigger fan of his than many around here (and have no ill-feelings regarding his decision to turn gainey down years ago).

i just don't see how he helps us enough to be worth what we'd likely have to pay him, or adding him to an already crowded top-9 C depth chart.

might as well throw less money at Bouchard, if french canadian offensively skilled UFA is the "need" MB is trying to fill.

Maybe Briere gets the Lecavalier offer: 3 years at 3 million per.

Wouldn't be surprised if the habs are simply throwing this out there for the media and certain portion of the fanbase. Id be really surprised if they are genuinely interested

Remember what MB said some players get your too the playoffs and others get you through the playoffs, well maybe that's why he is so interested in Briere, his playoff record

Oh so the brass can "strike out twice" in trying to acquire top-end French-Canadian talent?

Yeah I am sure they want to feed the media this.....

You can't only blame DD for losing in the playoffs, I agree we need to add grit but I don't think most ppl on here can evaluate talent. Briere has regressed and is now useless, trading DD for scraps to make room for him would be almost idiotic.

It's not easy to get 60 points in the NHL so when you find someone that can you don't give him away because he is small. Really hope moving him to the wing is being strongly considered, I don't think Gionta will return next year so that would leave DD and Gallagher and we can add more size.
