Honestly I don't mind Brière IF we sign him on a 1-2 year deal below 4M$ per year and we somehow trade Desharnais for picks or a 5-6 D that excels on the PK (other than Hal Gill).

Our line-up could look like this:

Pacioretty - Plekanec - Gallagher
Bourque - Galchenyuk - Brière
Prust - Eller - Gionta
Moen - White - Dumont

Gorges - Subban
Markov - Diaz (Emelin)
Tinordi - Bouillon
Drewiske

Price
Budaj

Problem is, those gloves had been delivered to the Bell Centre by CCM (who makes them in Quebec) and were for MARCEL Hossa, who played for NYR at the time, also wearing red white and blue, as the Rags were playing in Mtl that night... classic...

Guys, guys, calm down. When was the last time a Quebecois signed with the habs as a free agent? Like, what... Yanic Perreault?

No, won't happen. His (clever) agent is using the team for leverage. As Lecavalier did, as every star Quebec player will.

I never read his post, unfortunately I only read yours and responded. Thanks for providing your credentials, though that doesn't excuse you for making the debate personal.

Briere has stated in the past that he didn't want to play in Montreal, because of the unwanted pressure put on his family. That is common knowledge, though things change. If Briere is only interested in a one year contract. Maybe he would be willing to make that sacrifice.

See, now someone gets it. Can we wait until atleast training camp to know exactly what our lineup will be like. I'm pretty darn certain MB will be VERY VERY busy. He knows about the size problem, he even talked about it. So people please take a deep breath, grab a beer and let's go for a ride.

In his defense, there has been much speculation that even Bob Gainey thought the trade was done.

Hopefully Briere realizes before Bergevin that it doesn't make any sense. If it happens, why not trade Pacciorety for Conacher. Prust will still be there to take care of this team of hobbits...

That's 100% why i want him. Look at this 3rd line....and Prust on the 4th is just LUXURY.

Clarkson is going to get a handsome contract perhaps somewhere north of $6 million per year, but Toronto will only sign Clarkson "if the fit is right financially."

One day, somebody should really explain this elusive concept by which one year deals transform crappy players into valuable assets.

No he wouldn't. MB wants to add size to the top 6. That player will replace Ryder.

I mean, the Ryder that was on the 3rd line.

The ideal switch would be Gionta or DD swapped for a forward with size to take their exact spot.

That would be a decent deal....

We're talking about 6+ millions for players like Clarkson/Weiss. Brière at 4 at this stage of his career is really not that bad.

Indeed.

It has to be Toronto.

I hope he squeezes them for everything he can. Push that $6.5 million boundary.

Briere will go where the money is, period.

Just the fact that we are in the Briere 'derby' freaks me out. But if we are the team offering most money (like 8M/2y)...

Why Brière over Clarkson ?[/QUOTE]

Because Clarkson probably doesn't want to play in Montreal. Let's face it, not everyone want's to play in Montreal. These's guys are UFA's for a reason because they want to chose where they want to play and to a certain extent also choose their salary. MB has to work with what he can, I mean does Brière for a season upset the plan MB has for this teams future NO. I rather see brière in are top six than Deharnais or even Gionta. I can see multiple spots in are line up where Brière is a good fit.

Bourque Plekanec Brière

Galchenyuk Eller Brière
