Is Gainey still calling the shots behind the scenes or something?

Once again, though. The advantage with an older Briere is lower price and shorter contract length. That's why I could see there being some truth to the Habs showing interest.

Every move Bergevin makes seems to make Gauthier look better these days. If he is seriously going after Briere that is a total fail.

The scariest thing about not Signing Lecavalier is how much pressure MB will be under to sign someone to something. Gomez, Cammy, Gio was a product of missing out on better trades/UFAs and feeling the heat I believe.

To be honest, I think he doesn't care. He looks like he's looking straight ahead. The way he dealt with the Lecavalier stuff tells me he stays the course.

I remember in Bergevin's press conference when he got the job he said he wanted to bring the French heritage back to the team and also strengthen the scouting in Quebec.

His signings so far.

Price / Subban / Pacioretty / Gorges obviously.

Now....

Boullion
Diaz
Desharnias

Going after Lecavalier and Briere, supposedly. Wanting to draft Morin in the draft as well.

I think he is really taking the French thing into major consideration when he is building his team, if you take all the signings and free agent looks they all speak French. I am being serious. Not being funny but it is looking more and more like this is something he could be doing.

The Canadiens, having lost out on Lecavalier, made contact with Briere's camp Tuesday night, a source confirmed to ESPN.com. Sources also indicated that the New Jersey Devils, New York Islanders and Nashville Predators are among the teams to show solid interest in Briere and have already spoken to the Briere camp, which is led by agent Pat Brisson. Other teams were expected to contact Briere's camp Tuesday night and Wednesday.

I wouldn't mind signing Bričre but one dwarf has to be in his way out for this to happen.

Seriously? If you want to sign a vet winger then get Jagr or Iginla! Not another short winger!
