Why does either team do this? We kill any sort of depth we get and it doesn't help Boston much either.

Neither team does this.

And I think Havlat would not play next year due to injuries. No reason for Boston to take his fat contract.

Because its Segiun. Him and Couture are two players we can build this franchise around like Marleau and Thornton. I understand if Bruins fans wouldn't like the return. For the depth we free up cap space and can always trade for other assets/acquire them through free agency.

What would we trade that wouldn't open up other holes? You just gave Boston just about everything of value that we have (Hertl, 1st) that doesn't hurt us now. Also, it's cute that you think we can sign impact free agents.

Or we could build around Pavelski (most likely extended), Couture, Hertl and the 1st in a deep draft.

Havlat is on LTIR anyways so we can use his cap space. When he returns we buy out his contract.

No need for SJ to do this. And certainly no need for Bos to do this.

I'd like to see Hertl actually play a game before we go and trade him

The Bruins would never do this. To the guy saying SJ wouldn't, I respectfully disagree. This is a great deal for the Sharks. It's essentially a (likely) late first, a good prospect, a struggling defenseman and the always injured Havlat for a franchise center.

Jason Demers is the best part of that deal for Boston... that should tell you something.

You might get Dan Paille for that package.

Sharks do this in a heartbeat. Boston runs their GM out of town on a rail, AGAIN.

I think a starting point for any Seguin discussion has got to be Pavelski + Boyle (with Sharks keeping 5 M in cap) and a conditional 1st and 2nd (Pavs/Boyle do not sign extensions). That is a lot of value, and still Boston may hang up.

Havlat is more injury prone than an ice sculpture of Carlo Coilaiacavo. No way Boston does this.

Stopped reading after I saw Havlat..well actually I didn't but as soon as I saw him I immediately said no.

Not going Down the quantity for quality road again especially not with SJ, worked out quite terrible last time

I'd do it just to get Havlat off the team.

Someone already mentioned it but if we're trading Seguin to San Jose it would probably have to be a deal based around Couture (not saying straight up).
