No, the Avs dumped him because they simply did not require his services anymore.

And if anything, Liles has regressed a lot since 2011. Why on earth would the Avs want to acquire him? He wouldn't displace Johnson, Wilson, Hejda, Barrie, or likely Elliott, and the two kids are puck-moving defenseman. I'd rather give Sarich a spot than Liles because, at the start of the season, likely having Barrie, Elliott, and Hunwick all on the big club is more than enough puck-moving defenseman. No thank for John Liles, there's a reason they traded him.
