Is Nolan back for sure?

Thought we could have a debate on this. I know we have way to many injuries and made trades but it doesn't matter.

I for one don't believe Nolan should be the coach of this team going forward. We need Murray to pick someone of his choice. Not Lafontaine, let Timmy build this organization.

But if the rumours are true and he has been offered a contract then maybe he is back forsure. But if we go in a horrendous losing steak like we are now why should Nolan come back?

Are we really attributing this team's awful play lately to Nolan? I mean, this has been a terrible team all season and they traded a bunch of guys at the deadline and have since lost a bunch more guys to injury. Should we really be surprised that they're awful?

I don't know whether or not Nolan is the guy who should be coaching this team over the next few years, but a streak of the team's results matching their talent level shouldn't really be the deciding factor

This is fair.

I just don't care to have Nolan behind the bench for this team. I really want to bring in our guy "of the future" right now. Don't know who that is, either, though.

There is no known future for this team either. Keep it status quo until the identity of this team starts to unfold.

It's fine to bring in Murray's "own guy" if that's the route..but if any of you contribute a losing streak this season or next season to Nolan - that's probably the height of stupidity for any hockey discussion.

You can have the greatest coach of any sport of all time and he'd be having similar results to Nolan with THIS particular team..it's a team full of AHL players and 3rd/4th liners with probably 1 or 2 promising second line players...

Judge Nolan (or any coach for that matter), when the team is able to put a respectable product on the ice.

Fall of 2015 is when Nolan will start to be evaluated. It's all gravy until then.

Did Nolan sign his deal yet? There's still a chance he may walk at the end of the season.

I agree. For the rest of this season and next season we need a coach that can stay positive with the players. There are too many ("planned") losses to beat them up at every press conference like Rolston was doing.

I like Nolan as a coach during these years, he gets the most out of his players and they respect him apparently. When we start competing we can look for another coach if Nolan doesn't cut it with our new talent.

Just because he signs (when he does) a three year deal doesn't mean he'll be here for all three years. For now, and for next season, Nolan is fine. If he helps the dismal roster try hard, and still lose most games next year, I'll be fine with it.

Under Rolston: 4-15-1, 37 point pace
Under Nolan: 15-26-7, 63 point pace

No conclusions, I was just curious, so I thought I'd add this in.

Hasn't been announced yet, I don't think. I wonder who the last interim HC was who had his contract status run out as long, and as publicly, as Nolan's has. I'm also convinced that only Nolan and only the Sabres are capable of having this much unnecessary angst tied to a really routine decision.

I think two years guaranteed with a team option for a third is where they close they deal. They could still fire him after next season and throw him a year's salary for severance if Murray locates a better coach, or Nolan can't motivate the team effectively (his alleged strength as a coach).

His alleged strength?

I love how some of the contract ideas are with the thought off how best to structure them so he can be fired before the deal is over.

I'd just like Murray to bring in who he wants, someone he feels he'll work well with. If Nolan is that, fine, give him a chance. If not, move on.

Rolston was terrible but look at the schedule the opening 20 games.

The schedule?

Under Rolston they were on pace for one of the worst point totals in NHL history. Arguing the schedule was the problem is pretty silly.

I'd argue that Nolan's record would have been just about as terrible in that stretch.

They sucked because Rolston was in over his head and we had WAY too many kids here. The schedule had nothing to do with it.

Ted Nolan's three-year contract extension with BUF in hands of lawyers. Contract language still being finalized. Not "done" quite yet.

I've said it before, Nolan's done a great job both stints here. He deserves a chance with a talented team. The reason we suck right now is because we traded all of our talent away, and injuries to some of our best players.

At the risk of sounding like the typical TBN-reading, WGR-calling, ham sandwich and mustard on my shirt Sabres fan, but what is the holdup with this contract? If contracts routinely take this long to finalize, why did we hear about it so early? Weird.

Everything about the Sabres is always weird.

Not nothing. It was a brutal schedule. How big of a component is, of course, debatable.

The bolded statement seems to put you in some agreement with Leelee, no?

Just saw this on my Facebook, legit or no?

The Buffalo ‪#‎Sabres‬ have agreed to a 3 year contract extension with Ted Nolan. That being said, contract language is still being finalized by lawyers.
