I think they will take a look at a rook (one of them). They can save some money (900k vs 2.5 mil). Hoping for Straka but we shall see.

Pretty decent lineup, maybe we'll reach the playoffs this year

I don't get why people are even consider Hedberg. He's 40, and had an .883 SV% playing for NJ.

I wouldn't mind that if we change Couts and grossmann to read and coburn. Picks might be different though. I would not trade Couts, he is going to be a very important player for us for years to come.

I like it, but I would still rather trade read since we will be able to keep Laughton here cheaper.

Nah that second line is terrifying!! Plus it moves another center out of position which I am against. I'd always rather trade potential for performance, and Read and Ryan have that, Laughton doesn't yet. Ride out this year with Reader and see what happens next summer.

Either way. But this doesn't look bad to me either. Very balanced

Hartnell-Giroux-Ryan
Schenn-lecavalier-Voracek
Gagne/UFA-couturier-Simmonds
Talbot-Laughton-Rinaldo

Timonen-schenn
Streit-sbisa
Grossmann-Gus
Meszaros

With your lineup read will be gone next offseason. If we keep Laughton he could possibly be 3rd line LW with Couts and simmonds

If there is no B.schenn in your lineup, you have to deal Luke plain and simple

Some lineups in here are crazy...

a) Sign Ray Emery - no more than $3.5mil (using Fasth and Elliott among others as comparables) ...
b) Move salary - either trade or buyout Andrej Meszaros and/or Bruno Gervais
c) By saving $4mil or so, we can squeak under the cap for training camp, then LTIR Pronger ... THEN have space to add players throughout the year.

Hartnell - Giroux - Voracek
B. Schenn - Lecavalier - Simmonds
Talbot - Couturier - Read
Rinaldo - Laughton - Hall
Rosehill

Notes: Would like to see Read-Lecavalier-Simmonds on a line... possibly B. Schenn with Couturier like in the AHL? Giroux and Voracek stick together all year and they could become an elite duo. Talbot could play 3rd line, but I think something's gotta give now with this Hall signing... unless Hall is just a cheaper Fedotenko replacement?

Timonen - L. Schenn
Streit - Coburn
Grossmann - Gustafsson
xxx

xxx = Bourdon*, Lauridsen, Manning, Alt, etc. ... another 'in the system' player they can call-up once the season begins, saving capspace throughout the offseason.
Notes: Defense by committee. No no.1, no real top pairing guys except for Timonen so the defense has to be balanced in order to be successful. Everybody on this defense has a role, and I'm hoping for Schenn and Gustafsson to take another step forward in their development.

Emery
Mason

Notes: Split starts fairly evenly, much like Halak/Elliott in STL. Hope that Mason becomes a no.1, although he still won't be respected until he does it consistently...

Hall was re-signed. Would it make sense to put Laughton on Couturier's line?

Do you really think Luke Schenn would be a flyer if his name was Luke smith?

He was solely brought in cause they are brothers. I think since Luke is signed long term the thinking is that Bryadon will take a sweetheart deal to stay and play with his bro.

If Holmgren or any GM passed up on a trade that would make the team better just to keep the brothers together, then he would be failing his job as a GM. If a trade comes along that makes sense, makes the team better, and only involves one of the Schenns, you do it.

Lavy seems to like Talbot a lot as a 3rd line winger. He does struggle offensively so whoever he plays with there would definitely not score too many goals. Lavy really likes him there sadly

I'm okay with Talbot filling out the 3rd line as long as Couturier has someone with offensive upside (ie, Read) with him, too. Plus, Talbot is fast enough to stay with them, will be relentless in defensive assignment, can drop the gloves if need be, and showed 2 years ago that he can pot goals.

It does make sense if braydon signs a sweetheart deal. In what world does jvr= luke schenn

Luke schenn for all intents and purposes is a defensive defenseman. He provides some other intangibles such as charchter , leadership and a rock on ice. But basically he is of the same ilk as brooks Orpik, willie mitchell, rob scuderi, robyn regher etc etc.

You need those guys to win, and come playoff time those guys can get up to 25 minutes a game. But those guys can be had for cheap.

Now lets take a look at jvr. Young big mobile power forward who looks like a 30g scorer with 40g potential.

You never make that deal in a million years.

I like luke but we got traderaped.

I agree with you. The Flyers definitely lost that trade with the Leafs. Should have gotten a 2nd rounder at the very least along with LSchenn. That is all moot now though.

I think Holmgren realized he needed to infuse some youth on an aging blueline that offseason and LSchenn was probably one of the few young d-men available that wouldn't gut the team to get. That might explain him drafting so many d-men the past two drafts.

Still, even if your point is the reason why Holmgren got Luke, I think if a trade comes along involving one of the brothers and is good, you do it.

when you sign jvr long term to a nice cap hit for a potential top line winger and then trade him imo that is gutting the team.

One of the greatest frustrations with jvr over the years was how soft he is. I like jvr but he is the softest 6 '3'' guy ive ever seen. Boston made him look gutless over and over in the playoffs.

IMO that goes against the flyers culture and homer and snider could not stand for it. ALl this talk of bobby ryan coming ot philly, well damn we had our bobby ryan and we traded him for schenn.
