2013 NHL Draft Results: Top 10 Team Performances (THW)

Early impressions only; we'll obviously have to give this another 3 to 5 yrs and beyond...

Preds crack the list with a fine haul.

I think we got a lot of players who have the potential to reach the NHL. Jones is probably the only real impact player of the bunch, but most of the rest could reach the show and contribute. Girard sounds like another Nick Spaling. Diaby could be a valuable piece on the second pairing if he has the hockey smarts to match the athletic ability.

All three Finnish players we drafted are on the national team radar to some extent. Saros was the starter for the U-18 team; Juvonen was the backup for the U-20 team and was in goal for their demolition of Germany; Mäenalanen was part of the selects team this year.

Pettersson, Murphy, and Kivihalme are all intriguing prospects. Their lanky physiques don't bother me; Blum put on 30 pounds in two years after getting drafted, and Murphy and Kivihalme will have much more time to add the kind of muscle mass needed to be a quality NHL player. I think Pettersson, if he fills out and stays healthy, could be another late-round gem. We'll get a good look at what he can do next year when he suits up in the Allsvenskan.

Veilleux, barring a major leap in skill development, is likely an organizational player who will pick fights at lower levels where pure pugilists still get playing time. A lot of people want to say "Jordin Tootoo" when what they really mean is "Kelsey Wilson."
