Time to move US Hockey Hall of Fame?

It seems as though everytime I make the trek up Hwy 53 and pass through Eveleth, the US HHOF is either closed, or looks closed because deserted. I've heard that the place is losing money, probably due to it's location and the few visitors that show up.

I'm thinking it's time for the HHOF to move somewhere where more people will have an opportunity to pass through it's doors. And with more traffic, it will make more money and can maybe continue to update/add new exhibits.

It' my opinion that it should be moved down to St Paul, close to the Xcel. Maybe within Rivercentre, itself, or find a place across the street or someone along W 7th Street. I think it would be a hit.

Opinions?

Well, if they really want to get visitors to it, they should probably have it where the people are going to go. Having it at a location where the lightrail, cab, etc can reach it is pretty much the way to go. I would say St. Paul just because I don't think it could hurt.

I went there with a group of buddies a few summers ago, and yes, we were basically the only ones there. That made the experience kind of cool for me because I didn't have to put up with getting around other people or waiting in lines to see anything there, but it was very dead. If they are losing money, then I'd say a move down toward the metro area would be the best idea. I wouldn't say they need to put it in St. Paul but if they could find a suburb close to St. Paul then I'd be all for it.

I say leave it alone.

It's kind of cool to make it into a journey to see it.

I hope they find some new mines of in Eveleth. Kinda sad that their hockey teams are bottom of the league now after all those years of domination.

With the amount of visitors the Mall gets from all around the country, people outside of Minnesota might actually know where the US HHOF is located. The public interest level can really go nowhere but up from there. Not sure that it would ever happen but it would be awesome.

It'd be fine to move it. A lot more interest in the state, but out of state people would have an easier time seeing it

On one hand I like that it's a trek, like going to Shangri-la...or Cooperstown. Didn't realize it was way out in the hinterlands of Minnesota. On the other hand...I always thought it was like the NHL's HOF, right in the centre of a city.

At least it's in the right state?

As someone from near that area. It needs to be moved. Let it make money, and if it can reach more fans, then it will have more meaning.

I voted one way, but your comments persuade me my vote is wrong.

Sentimental about N. Minnesota hockey.

The hallmark of successful enterprise is the ability to adapt. Being from northern Minnesota (Roseau), I have a strong respect for the tradition of northern Minnesota hockey. But in order to increase its exposure, reignite that wonder in old fans, and spark the flame in new ones, it needs to be more accessible.

I'd love for it to make some money and have that money put back into hockey in MN

I like the idea of putting it near the X. The MoA idea is also cool, particularly if you could put it at the old center ice (sort of like Kirby's chair in the MoA).

That said, and I know moving it from MN would be sacrilege on this forum, but you could definitely make a strong case for Lake Placid.

It should either by at Mall of America, At Rivercentre, or Downtown Saint Paul (maybe the abandaned Macy's location).

I like the MoA idea, it would bring exposure to hockey which would be a great thing for USA hockey. Imagine having a cool experience showcasing the 1980 gold medal team where fans old and young get to learn about it. Since MoA attracts many outside visitors it would be a perfect place for exposure.

It's in Minnesota. That's all that matters. They can put it anywhere in the state they like.
