[CGY] Flames sign G Karri Ramo (2 years, $2.75M AAV)

Quote:
Feaster said he expects to announce the signing of Finnish goaltender Karri Ramo on Friday.

Will be interesting to see who wins the goaltending battle next season between Ramo, MacDonald, and Berra.

Article also says the Flames will definitely be acquiring a centre on Friday, either via trade or free agency. Some of the UFAs the Flames are rumoured to be interested in include Weiss, Ribeiro, Roy, Filppula, and Bozak.

Good wild card that could make the Cammalleri trade look better for Calgary too. Curious to see him next year, always liked his potential.

not trying to be rude, but thats a pretty gross competition...are they bringing in a starting goalie or going to go with 2 backups?

Feastin', don't get why people don't like guy, had a **** up, dodged because of a dumber Sherman, but otherwise pretty smart moves.

Ramo is really good and a horse. Anyone disputing that isn't following hockey close enough.

The flames didn't offer any thing to him and letting him go to Free Agency.

The truth is no one knows how good he will be in the NHL, this time around. All we know about him is that he is really good in the KHL for the past 3 years.

Low risk high reward type of situation for the Flames. It makes a lot of sense to lock him up now, in case he does continue his winning ways in the NHL.

I'm still interested in seeing what Ramo can do. Super athletic, but was all over the place when he was in the NHL.

i'm not sure how calgary's decision to basically roll the dice on 3 unproven goaltenders will go, but it sure will be interesting to watch.

Good for the Flames. I'm interested to see what he can do now that he's back.

He wasn't great when he played in the NHL before leaving. But he's evidently been good in the KHL. Maybe just maybe he can translate that to here.

I almost already feel sorry for the guy. Our defence is so bad right now unless of course some moves are made. So unless he plays Vezina like, the Flames are in big trouble. (We already know we are in trouble.. it's a rebuild)

The idea is that we are most likely going to suck even if we got Rask to play for us for free so we might as well gamble on 2 Euro goalies that are talked about with high regard in terms of ability to play in the NHL. The worst case is they crash and burn we end up picking #1 or #2 next year and try to sign a goalie to hold the fort while our prospects develop. On the other hand the best case scenario ( well the best case is making the playoffs but lets just forget about that for the moment) is one of our 2 goalies proves to be a starter and gives us a spot to start rebuilding from and allows us to use assets to improve our defense and offense instead of net.

Basically it is a no risk high reward situation. I much prefer this then paying what Toronto or NJ did for a goalie as we aren't at the same point where we need a solid number 1 goalie to compete for the playoffs.

Willing to bet a lot of people are going to bash Feaster right away when the details of the contract are announced.

The best goaltender in the KHL is now either the first or second best goaltender on the Calgary Flames roster. #feaster

If it's more than $3 mil annually I will be one of them.
