These are my 2 most hated teams and even I can admit the Leafs are getting ripped off here (assuming Kessel can be re-signed).

Does anyone really want DD?

Ok so, here's my question: why would Toronto trade Kessel to a division rival? If Kessel even does get traded (which I doubt), I'm sure it will NOT be to a division rival.

/thread before this gets ugly

That 5th rounder does it for Montreal.

Toronto would be getting a signed legit NHL player for their rental, as well as a top prospect and a 1st. That's much more than what they'll end up getting.

Lol what? You wouldn't do a mediocre 2-3 line center, a d prospect and a pick for a PPG 35+ goal winger?

Habs take this and run before Nonis sobers up. Which is also why the Leafs wouldn't ever do this trade.

No, Leaf fan..., a small Habs team doesn't need another small scoring winger when we have many in the system, not to mention losing their best D prospect and a 1st...trade doesn't meet a need for Montreal & Toronto loses its best asset in the deal...but why bother with logic, just do what Leaf fans do, pick illogical fights...

Well we did get him from a division rival. But either way there is no way in hell we are trading him any time soon unless its a massive over payment. My personal opinion is that subban and price for kessel, nonis would have to say no. That is how much he means to this team and shows how little we would need those two players. Of course Montreal would never do that.

Well just on the player values I'd do it easily for the Habs. But then looking at contracts... I'd change my mind. My intuition is that Kessel is going to be a UFA after the coming season and making $7-8M per thereafter. I don't really want to pay the 1st and Beaulieu to just rent him for 1 year. If you could give me assurances he'd sign long term, that might be different...

Hey Nonis...is that you? Why aren't we resigning Kessel?

Every team has a need for a PPG goal scoring winger, regardless of whether their fanbase has a Milan Lucic fetish or not.

Kessel left Boston for the money. No reason to think he wont try to extract as much as he can from the UFA market. Plus your team sucks and the media pressure is insane.

So the Leafs biggest needs are a 5'6" centre, a defensive prospect and a 1st round pick that may produce a player in 5 years?

I'm pretty sure it's because he is not ready to retire yet. Lol unless you were meaning re-signing.

I totally agree. Kessel under Carlyle pretty much dispelled every negative thing people love to joke about. He played well at both ends of the ice, had more assists than goals and was great in our limited playoff run (including knocking both Chara and Seguin on thier *****). Lets just pay our best player like he is our best player and keep building.
