UFA List

I copied this list from the main forums (post by SonicY) and added Stephen Weiss to it. Was wondering which of those FA's would be good fits as well as reasonable acquisitions for us:

FORWARDS
----------
Mike Ribeiro
Pascal Dupuis
Patrick Elias
Brad Boyes
Jarome Iginla
Vinny Prospal
Tyler Bozak
Jaromir Jagr
Sauk Koivu
Tyler Bozak
Damian Brunner
Derek Roy
Matt Cullen
Brendan Morrow
David Clarkson
Brian Bickell
Viktor Stalberg
Mason Raymond
Clarke Macarthur
Ryane Clowe
Nathan Horton
Matt Cooke
Valteri Filppula
Nathan Horton
Pierre Marc Bouchard
Nik Antropov
Danny Briere
Boyd Gordon
Dustin Penner
Stephen Weiss

D-MEN
------
Marek Zidlicky
Rob Scuderi
Ryan Whitney
Joe Corvo
Michal Roszival
Ryan Whitney
Ron Hainsey
Douglas Murray
Andrew Ference

GOALIES
--------
Mike Smith -
Tim Thomas -
Ilya Bryzgalov -
Evgeni Nabokov -
Ray Emery -
Anton Khudobin -
Roberto Luongo (bonus) -

Not a very exciting group of UFAs this year.

Bickell, Stalberg, and Clarkson are all going to get huge payouts, well out of our price range

I would look at Filppulla, Stalberg, MacArthur, Raymond and possibly Horton (though his injuries are scary).

Also, you have Horton and Bozak twice.

I copied the list from the main boards and added Weiss to it. Did not really check it to be honest ..

DW doesn't sign any if these guys ... top 6 guys, which we need, will ask for too much. He'll make a trade like he always does. Look out Raffi ... you did just sign a 3-year deal afterall. Dun dun DUN!!

Filpulla is the only one I would really like from that group, and not at 5M.

I obviously like Elias too but he is staying with NJ

Bozak is absolutely horrendous, and last I heard he wanted >$5M.

Filppula, MacArthur, and Stalberg are the only guys I'm interested in, in that order. Realistically we won't get any of them.

Think I hear about Stalberg is that he was setting himself up for a huge payday till he decided to not show up in the playoffs.

Also, hearing pretty consistent reviews about him from other posters.

"Great speed but that is pretty much it. Not great in the defensive zone. Not a good finisher."

I'd agree with those reviews, with one amendment: he drives play at a high level. He may not have a great shot, but he shoots the puck at a high rate. He produces about .5PPG at even strength in limited minutes. If he's cheapish, I wouldn't mind him at all. But yeah, I wouldn't break the bank for him.

Right. The Hawks fans seem to think anything over 2.5M AAV is too much for him. Other teams seem to go as high as 3.5M AAV over a 3 year deal. I actually do think that a Torres-Pavs-Stalberg line has pretty good potential.

But I really would not want to pay more than 3M AAV for him.

its really hard to tell off their advanced stats because the whole team was horrendous, but he puts up good numbers without a ton of offensive zone starts.

though id agree macarthur is probably better and cheaper though.

Check his WOWYs without Kessel. Horrendous. I feel comfortable saying he's one of the worst players in the league.

You can leave out the UFA goalies list since we won't be signing anyone except maybe Greiss.

None of those defensemen really intrigue me or are expensive.

That leaves forwards. Antropov, Raymond and Filp are the onyl realistic ones.

if im reading it right he spent 60 minutes apart from kessel. hardly a sample size id bank on...although it could be argued hes a product of kessel just by the amount of time they are out together.

for instance look at macarthur without kadri.

Ference might be an ok depth D signing. Rumor is that the Bruins won't resign him due to Dougie/Krug/Bart needing spots. He helps run the Bruins 2nd unit on the pp and can move the puck on the left side.

MacArthur's Corsi goes up without Kadri. Just look at MacArthur's WOWY's, they're fantastic. There's not a single Leaf player that's a better Corsi player without MacArthur than MacArthur is without them. (http://stats.hockeyanalysis.com/show...012-13&sit=5v5).

Bozak depends completely on Kessel to do the heavy lifting. Imagine how Kessel would play without that anchor attached to him?

I'm pretty sure he'll ask for $4 million AAV. Veteran, solid top 4 defensemen usually don't come cheap. I think he's out of our price range and redundant with Stuart still signed.

I feel like the only way Filppula ends up here is if Pavs is traded. He was making 3M already though, so I guess he wants 4-5M. So never mind.

I heard he wanted at least $5M on a long term deal. Probably too high profile for us.

I think we'll roll with the forwards from last year except Hertl will be added. DW is probably banking on Hertl being a tweener except he'll be 5 times cheaper than the top UFA on this list. If Hertl doesn't work out then he'll think about trading for someone.
