QMJHL Cuts Weekly Benefit to 20 Year Olds

The QMJHL announced that the weekly benefit to 20 year olds will be limited to $150.00. Three 20 year olds per team.

Overlooking all the side issues, looks like the Q and the two other CHL leagues are going the developmental route try to get 16 year olds into the league with the goal of three seasons experience by the players NHL draft eligible year.

I don't think it's possible to have 3 seasons experience by the time they enter their draft year unless the player is an EP.

Post September 15, 1998 birthdays making the QMJHL as 16 year olds would qualify for three Q seasons before their NHL Entry Draft.

Beck, Gagné from the first round are possibles. Others from rounds two and three especially on weak teams.

I didn't know you meant that, I just assumed birth year.

I suppose more 20 year olds will be going pro.

Does this open up Junior A and QJAAA to more development opportunities for younger players as well? Or will now cater to later bloomers who will have to play 3 years of Midget as they are passed over for the elite 15yo ?

possibly, however, along with the cut to 150$ - if you do not play in the league at 20 in order to go play junior A,or pro hockey, you lose your Q scholarship money.
i don't think they lose many players! If your in the mix to play major junior at 20, you probably need the scholarship money for a lot of those players.
