15m on the 7 RFAs, 1m ish for one of the AHL call ups (Asht,Migo)? or League min for Hamilton?

9m for two needed contracts/RFAs?

Something pretty darn close to that.

After RFA signings I think our roster looks like so:

Left Wing Center Right Wing
Joffrey Lupul ($5.250m) UFA Phil Kessel ($5.400m)
James Van Riemsdyk ($4.250m) Nazem Kadri ($4.000m) UFA
UFA Dave Bolland ($3.375m) Nikolai Kulemin ($2.800m)
UFA Jay McClement ($1.500m) Colton Orr ($0.925m)
Frazer McLaren ($0.696m) UFA

LD RD
Dion Phaneuf ($6.500m) Cody Franson ($3.750m)
Jake Gardiner ($1.117m) John-Michael Liles ($3.875m)
Carl Gunnarsson ($1.750m) Mark Fraser ($0.660m)
Korbinian Holzer ($0.788m)

Goaltender
Jonathan Bernier ($2.000m)
James Reimer ($1.800m)

Other
Buyout: Darcy Tucker ($1.000m)
Buyout: Colby Armstrong ($1.000m)
Retained: Matt Frattin ($0.437m)
Ben Scrivens ($0.062m)

CAPGEEK.COM TOTALS (follow @capgeek on Twitter)
(these totals are compiled with the bonus cushion)
SALARY CAP: $64,300,000; CAP PAYROLL: $53,585,417; BONUSES: $300,000
CAP SPACE (19-man roster): $11,014,583

I haven't included Colborne, I don't think he cracks this lineup. The holes are a 1st or 2nd line center, a 2nd line RW, and a 3rd line LW, and 4th line LW. It's going to be tough to fill those holes with $11m in cap space. We might be able to get Weiss and Clarkson on that budget, but I would expect only one of those two. Obviously, include any Marlies into the pool of "UFAs" we could get.

you gotta let kids crack the lineup in a cap environment. it's high time we let guys like Colborne, Ashton, and D'amigo have a shot at bottom line duty.

and if they falter, then guys like McKegg, Leivo, Biggs get a shot behind them.

Does Colborne displace McClement? I don't think he does, unless he gets moved to wing.

Guess the cap room now available might be only enough room for both Weiss (assume 6M) and Clarkson(assume 4M). Unless they are willing to take hometown discount, Nonis might still need to trim down the salary pay for the current roster to resign Bernier and AHL kids??

Kadri and Franson are too high I think. Gunnarson too low, I think he gets closer to 3, or traded. McLaren will probably sign for that, Fraser wont.

Kadri as number one...

Is possible but is he ready now? I am thinking they bow to Bozak giving him 5 X $4M and wait for a trade now. Weiss ,is that really an upgrade? I would rather just have Kadri. They would have to be insane to sign Clarkson to $6M as that would impact all future contracts(i.e Grabo.),I have heard $4.75M and that seems more real. Then Nonnis takes a walk at Scuderi.

Slow but steady, then wait for Avs to choke on Statsny who only has 1 year left.

Kessel Bozak JVR
Lupul Kadri Clarkson
Kulemin Bolland Mclemm.
McLaren Colbourne Orr
D'Amigo ?

Phaneuff Scuderi
Gardiner Franson
Fraser Gunner
(x)

Reimer
Bernier

Nonnis can claim he upgraded at every position while remaining flexible if a number 1 shows up. Of course if Bozak walks he goes straight after Statsny or a number 1.

So we're on track to actually be over the cap at this point.

we still either have to get rid of Liles or Nonis will have to get very creative with the RFA re-signs.

You know Nonis would love to dispose of Liles, and is no doubt trying.. he simply ran out of compliance buyouts.

Ahh we thought we could have Clarky at 4m lol.

Look at his hits over the past 2 seasons, playing for his home town team, you can imagine him revving it up even more.

Clarkson, Orr, McLaren, Fraser, Phaneuf.

I want the line brawls to return, rough and ruggid! Kadri turn into our Gilmour baby and we'll have some good flashbacks.

if our bottom line guys are only making $700,000-1,000,000 then there is no urgency for this.

bottom line guys are getting 10 min or less. Do you want a kid to fill that role or a tough experienced pair of Orr and McLaren?

If Nonis was that desperate to get rid of him, do you think he'd have used the buyout on Komisarek instead of Liles? Burying Komisarek and taking ~900k off his cap hit would have us carrying Komisarek at 3.6 million or keeping Liles and dropping Komisarek has us carrying Liles at 3.875. Additionally, we'd drop his cap hit for the next 3 season.

It really doesn't seem like Nonis is desperate to drop him as you think, his actions don't suggest that. If he thought he was as useless as you do, he made a stupid move by using a compliance buyout on Komisarek instead of Liles and after seeing what Striet and Gonchar got on their deals there looks like he is probably movable in a trade.

Liles will be traded (dumped) or place on waivers and demoted to the Marlies. Unlike Komisarek, he does not have a NMC, he has a limited NTC only. His salary can be sent to the Marlies and come off the cap, worst case scenario.

Only 925k comes off the cap for demoted players.

Nonis could probably shave enough off those estimated RFA signings to get under the cap, but he still wouldn't have much room to work with this season.

We definitely need to move Liles.

BONUSES: $712,500

CAP SPACE (23-man roster): -$939,167

Nonis could probably shave enough off those estimated RFA signings to get under the cap, but he still wouldn't have much room to work with this season.

We definitely need to move Liles.
I think Gunnarrson + Franson will =6 mil, not 7

Additionally, we'd drop his cap hit for the next 3 season.

It really doesn't seem like Nonis is desperate to drop him as you think, his actions don't suggest that. If he thought he was as useless as you do, he made a stupid move by using a compliance buyout on Komisarek instead of Liles and after seeing what Striet and Gonchar got on their deals there looks like he is probably movable in a trade.
Komisarek has a NMC, which means he can't be placed on waivers and sent to the AHL unless he authorizes it. So there is no Nonis controlled burying of Komisarek here. Last year was a bit of an anomaly as Komisarek wanted to get some playing time in and tired of sitting out a lockout and then a regular healthy scratch for all but a few games.

Liles can be buried however save $900k and open a roster spot of the 23 max. Hopefully Nonis can find someone to take Liles off of Leafs hands even if its for future considerations.

Huge Cap Problem

Cap geek reports that after the bernier signing, we have about $10 mill in cap space left...

This kind of scares me since we have 5 really important RFAs to resign :|

Kadri, Colborne, Franson, Gunnarsson, Fraser (okay maybe not fraser)

But even with the rest, do you think we can fit those 4 key players under 10 million? It's making me wonder if we're going to have to trade someone like liles or franson to keep everything under control :/
