just say No to Aucoin!

Am I the only one here who really doesnt want to see Aucoin in a Leaf jersey?
I mean, he's already 32 years old, although coming off the best season of his career.
He's not fleet of foot, or outstanding in any way, other than perhaps his shot, Toronto needs a 'clear the crease' defenceman, not a lesser version of McCabe.

Im not a big fan of Aucoine.

I'd rather have a good defensive defenseman to pair up with Kaberle, instead.
Love to see Rathje in a Leafs uniform.

Kaberle-Pilar
McCabe-Klee
Berg-Carlo

Rotating staff from the Marlies.

Spend on offense.

It is all about offense now, outscore should be the motto.

are you serious Ulf? I don't think this will happen without some kind of "illegal defense" call similar to the NBA.

I don't really want Klee either ...Leafs need some speed on the D for a change.

I'd say this year is a write off.

The focus should be in preparing for the future.

Keep Mats and Belfour to help keep the kids calm.

Let's not worry about results for this year.

Let's go back to Quinn's first campaign with the Leafs and throw it at the wall to see what sticks.

maybe a little harsh but he's cetainly nothing "special".....I'd call him serviceable.

Not useless, but certainly replacable. Servicable may be a good word. If you expect him to be a 1 or 2 guy, no way. If you want a reliable #4 guy, he fills that fine.

as a 5/6 he's good ...as a 3/4 he's not good. ...klee/berg as 5/6 is okay, but move him (or either os them) up and thats where things can get bad. ...I'd like to see Carlo get a shot at the 3/4 before Klee in any regards of whom else we may aquire.

/edit ...best case scenario has Carlo and Klee OR Berg as 5/6 with Leetch/McCabe, Kaberle/(Foote/Rathje) ahead of them ...but, lack of 2 UFA's moves Klee into the 3/4 slot, which makes us weak. ...D is still our achillies heel

Before he came to the Leafs, Klee was the #2 defenseman on a a 95-point Washington team.

I believe he was a 3/4 not the 2. Gonchar was 1, and I cant remember who he was usually paired with, but I thought Klee was paired with Witt as the 3/4 ...though I could be wrong, and maybe mistaking Witt, for Klee?

Aucoins biggest asset is his endurance. He can log 40 minutes a game. Thinking of him in the playoffs, you really don't need your #5 and $6 guys at all, which can really come in handy. If you have McCabe and Kaberle together, then I personally think thats the ideal pairing for the Leafs. Gives them good scoring and they can build on stronger #4, #4 guy instead. Prongers a great guy to dream about, but odds are we won't have the room. You get Aucoin, watch to see if Klee or one of the kids can play well enough to step into a #4 role and you have these guys going all playoffs basically, and they can handle it. Lets not forget D is a philosophy and not just a position, if the Wingers were more discipline and the centers handled the load a bit better, the D might not look as suspect.

No, Klee was matched with Gonchar and everybody talked about how Gonchar struggled without Klee to play responsible defense.
