too many pieces involved in that deal that boston would NOT want to trade because it hurts the team. also Seidenberg is a great defenceman and better than smid but smid at a cheap cap hit for 4 more years > 1 year of Seidenberg
i can see some logic for some of the moving parts here but overall its a mess. smid just showed loyalty to edmonton re-upping and is a defacto top 2 guy on the depth chart... cant see him being moved for seidenberg who is 1 year away from ufa.
hemsky for paille might make some sense... even through in reilly smith and it might make some sense.
i dont see lander being a deal breaker... but boston is trying to find room for soderberg/spooner in the middle and has no use at all for lander.
i dont think edmonton has room for three bottom six guys like smith/thornton/paille at this point after committing to jones and having smyth around and the other moves they have made.
a more simple suggestion...
edmonton ends up with chris kelly since they want more depth in the middle on their bottom 2 lines... and adam mcquaid cause they still want to address team toughness and need a proven bottom pair right hand shot dman
boston ends up with hemsky at 1/2 cost because boston is in a cap crunch and hemsky at 1/2 cost does more to help the team than kelly does at full price.
boston then replaces mcquaid on the depth chart signing someone like redden or whitney for less than mcquaid is going to make.
edmonton ends up with about 10 nhl dmen after this trade but mcquaid is a top 5 guy for them so they move a couple of the bottom guys to waivers or the ahl
i think edmonton should move hemsky... he is addition by subtraction but moving him at full cap hit has proven to be impossible. if edmonton eats 1/2 the cap hit and takes back a contract that is 'useful' like kelly than mcquaid imho is an affordable incentive out of boston to make the deal paletable.
i like the idea of being able to play hemsky with krecji/lucic... think the line would work great... let iginla join bergeron/marchand... and then have an amazing third line with eriksson joining soderberg and what ever kid has the strongest camp.
winning matchups convincingly with our third line is how teams win cups since most clubs have a top line or two that cancel out at playoff time. I could get behind a deal like this with an eye towards using it to create a super powered third line
IMO Edmonton is overpaying here. That said I'm still not sure I see Boston doing this. That's a lot of heart players for the Bruins going one way. Also, I'm not sure I see Hemsky contributing on the 3rd line which is where he'd be for the Bruins. Lander, Marincin and Smid are all real good pieces the Bruins would probably love to get but I think it's the wrong move for where they are in their playoff window.
I want no part of a guy name Denise playing for the Oilers and who the hell is Dzeno . If you mean D , Zero as in Dumb and Zero chance the Bruins make this trade I agree . As an Oiler fan , I also see many reason for the Oilers not to do it .
