We've got nobody ready if we pick up injuries to the forwards. Even a small addition is a good idea. We don't have to do that right now, of course, but I'm not about to complain if we pick up a competent bottom-6er tomorrow. Just hopefully not for too much money.
We have seven bottom 6 players right now. We need a top six guy.

And if we get one? Great. Will we? Probably not.

There are plenty of guys who could fit on this roster. I'm not even that impressed with our fourth line, really. And there's just not a ton of top six options out there, in addition to San Jose's frequent inability to attract the big name guys in free agency.

I'm expecting a minor signing, and I'm also expecting a ton of whining over it. Personally I'd rather have more capable bodies on the roster than calling up Matt Pelech to fill in at left wing when someone gets hurt or Torres gets suspended again.

Well, I'm going to sleep and when I get up it will likely be 1PM or so, so here's hoping something exciting happens.

See, the problem is, those capable bodies. Because established NHLers who are acquired for depth can't play in the AHL. When that happens, you get the Handzus effect; they are traded away.

For the Sharks, Hertl and Nieto (and whatever other prospects) should be those capable bodies. Because they can play in the AHL, they will lap up even the littlest of ice time, and they might actually benefit from being eased into the lineup.

Then, when the playoffs come around, you acquire the 4th-line/7th d NHL bodies; players with experience and expiring contracts, for cheap.

We have far better options that Pelech now though:

Nieto, Hayes, Stalberg, Olesksuk, Hamilton, Schwartz, Tarasov.

On D we have Acolotse, Tennyson, Petrecki, Albetshauser, Demelo...

As far as call ups go, we are in pretty good shape for once.

Exactly.

Top-6 tweener at worst, otherwise don't sign anyone.

Oh what the hell, it's Doug Wilson's birthday today. He's gonna be tanning and sipping margaritas all afternoon. Don't expect any signings today.

I didn't know it's DW's birthday today. Is he going to throw money around or just call it a day since the big names never sign here?

I figure there is some hope since they were apparently kicking lots of tires, like Alfredson, means they do see a need.

He will get Horton to sign for peanuts so he can ride shotgun with Jumbo. Horton wants a quiet place with not a lot of media hounding.

I'd generally be ok with that honestly, just the injury concerns. Skillset wise it'd be a decent fit.

It all comes down to one simple fact that pretty much validates all of those arguments (not saying they are right, just valid arguments). The Sharks do not have a cup yet. Until that happens, Wilson has failed, I'm sure he'd say so himself.
