Take out Elliott and Henrique, then you got a deal.

I don't really see what this accomplishes for NJ other than adding salary.

I don't think either team does this.

It really isn't, no. If any team is taking a chance here, its Colorado.

Apparently according to my nj/col proposal from today only leaf fans make proposals. And he isn't available. But that's not me.
I want him. Just not for henrique. Not saying henrique is better. But he isn't making 6 million a year. If stastny was making less an wasn't a UFA then the deal could work. Bit it just would be a lateral move.

Then Stastny leaves in a year and New Jersey gave up Henrique and Fayne for Elliott.

Which is why Fayne for Stastny seems fair. Both UFA at seasons end and NJ eats the huge cap hit.

Valid objection, but Stastny could also fit as an ideal 2nd line center in NJ, and you could resign him for probably closer to 4-4.5 in the offseason if you so chose. I see a bit of Chris Drury in Henrique, and we could use a player like him on LW. Then again, he had a whopping 16 points last year, so we could also get screwed massively. Like I said, unless Stastny was somehow a colossal bust in New Jersey, I don't see how this doesn't work for the Devils.

UFA status doesn't make trading a 5/6 defenseman for a proven 2nd line center a fair deal.

We have quite the logjam at center and defense. Stastny would be an upgrade over most but it's questionable whether that would be worth his cap hit.

Wow...

You have no clue what Mark Fayne is about do you? Have you seen him play? Pretty poor argument on your part.

edit: UFA status wasn't the reason it was a fair deal Stastny's huge cap hit was.

Mark Fayne is not a 5/6 defenseman.

Not interested in this from the Avs POV.

Stastny isnt going anywhere until we find out if RoR leaves this deadline.

I think New Jersey and Colorado could be good trading partners but this specific trade is just no bueno.

Fayne may be top 4 on both the Devils and Avs, but that doesn't make him a top 4 NHL defenseman. I'll take your word for it though, I literally only threw him in as a right handed dman anyways. Peter Harrold and a 3rd instead.

It's not that I want to get rid of Stastny per se, and as one user mentioned I probably wouldn't make this deal unless the O'Reilly situation was cleared up. I just think that with a left side of Landeskog, Henrique and McGinn, and a center situation of Duchene, MacKinnon and O'Reilly, there's a better chance for Stastny to contribute somewhere else. I'm not blown away by Henrique's regular season stats at all, but he really brought his game in the 2012 playoffs, and I think that mentality and ability is needed more on the Avs than a reduced-role version of Paul Stastny.

Neither teams likes it, so I feel ok about it.
