A mix of vets and kids. Let's see how it shakes out.
I agree. The captain hasn't happened yet. This team is so young that there is a potential captain there at some point. Giving it to Benn would be a mistake. His play last year was good but not good enough. Give it another year and the captain picture will be clearer.

Just calling you on your bs. I asked why you said Seguin and your answer turns out to be just another potshot at Benn considering that when you posted, not a single person had said Benn should be captain.

Anyways, carry on. Benn sucks. I'm finally coming around.
Get out.

Horcoff seems like a lock for an "A" and maybe even the "C".

After hearing that Jamie Benn was one of the first guys to make sure and reach out to all the new acquisitions and offering help to them for stuff, getting a really strong vibe about it.

C - Benn
A - Whitney
A - Horcoff

C - Horcoff
A - Benn
A - Dillon

I would prefer Horcoff leads this team until Benn steps up and shows the league what a powerhouse he can be on and off the ice with his move to wing. He's clearly taking all the right steps to get there, now let's make sure the defensive game is back, and that he shows 100% effort each shift.

Dillon is going to eventually be a captain in some capacity. He's a beast and he'll win over the team no problemo.

I like what nill had to say about the defense being better because the forward situation is now better.

One thing about Horcoff is that he is very professional on and off the ice and works very hard. Looking at his press conference earlier, he said all the right things, but really preached professionalism. It was something I found very funny as Seguin was sitting right beside him. lol. Makes you wonder if they told him to say that stuff, so maybe, just maybe, it will rub off on the kid. I say give the 'C' to Horcoff. He'll whip Seguin into shape.

Not a horrible idea, especially with a young team, but something about it doesn't rub me the right way...

After watching the press conference videos I'm convinced Horcoff is the new captain.

It sounded like even though the Seguin trade happened first that his first line of business was to get some kind of verbal (I would imagine) confirmation on Horcoff from Edmonton. It really looks like these trades happened in tandem and that Horcoff as mentor to Seguin was high on Nill's list of priorities.

Has that ever happened? Someone who's never played a game for a team, named captain, or even in his first year for that matter. I wouldn't count on it.

I'm thinking just A's for the time being. I'm excited to see who emerges as the actual captain.

I can't think of anyone specific off the top of my head but I'm pretty sure it has.

Just checked out the one I thought of and it's the most relevant example. Craig Rivet was named captain of Buffalo before playing a game.

Yea, but Horcoff's no Craig Rivet.

Seriously though, I don't like the idea of doing it that way. I think we should just roll A's to start the season, and if someone (Horcoff) shows the leadership quality (that us fans will never fully see), then go ahead and name them it.

I just find it odd that someone that is unfamiliar (not adequately acclimated) with the team to be named captain.

Not that odd I don't think. Leadership will show to an extent in camp and pre-season. If there is just a clear voice, then you can do it. I don't think it matters when it happens so much as letting it happen, rather than forcing it. Could be quick, could be later. Either way is fine.

Did you watch the presser? Horcoff owned the table they're sitting at and that was with the GM sitting two seats away. I'm not saying he will but I wouldn't have a problem with it and the way Nill was gushing over his professionalism and work ethic it wouldn't surprise me in the least.

every team is different, each team will generate it's own leaders
it isn't hard for coaches to see who those people are and then use them accordingly
horcoff appears to be one of those kind of natural dudes
we shall see.....................

At first I didn't think too much about Horcoff. After reading some interviews and seeing the press conference I am actually pretty excited to see him in a Stars uniform.

That and winning ceremonial faceoffs. I want to win one of those on the road for once.
