I guess Nill didn't realize it's a holiday.

Shawn Horcoff is an incredibly under-rated player who doesn't deserve to be thrown under the bus as much as he is on these and other boards. No he's not worth 5 million, but I give him 3.5-4 any day of the week.

This is a guy who has played every difficult minute for Edmonton up until this previous season, all while playing with complete garbage for linemates. He's a leader and a character guy who can play 17-18 minutes a night against top level opposition and hold his own. Yeah he doesn't provide so much in point production in that role, but he's a massive upgrade over Vern Fiddler in the shutdown center role.

And yeah, his contract expires in a couple seasons - it's important to consider him as a bridge in the hard minutes #2/3 center role until we can develop one of our own prospects for that position. If you are a team that wants to make the playoffs and have some success, you need one of those guys - see Dave Bolland, Jarret Stoll, and Vladimir Sobotka as good examples of these types of players.

Maybe Fiddler is on the way out.

Management is dead-set to make the playoffs this season.

Despite the party on the Oiler board. The stars just traded for a class act professional who knows his job

Can he play PK effectively?? Because that's what we're losing if Fiddler goes after this..

I really don't know what to think of this one. Fiddler has to be going the other way, right?

That's what I've always felt about him.

I'm just amazed how aggressive Nill is. No way moves like these are happening with GM Joe.

Kind of feel like the activity today is to show whoever we sign tomorrow that we mean business and should be taken seriously.

Horcoff is better than Fiddler in every regard EXCEPT Kevin Bieksa impersonations.
So it's about even.

2 years of a 5.5m cap hit isn't good for signing a top UFA tomorrow. I thought that he or Grabovski should be targets a few weeks ago, but we have 4 C now and he makes 5 as a big ticket guy.

IIRC, he's been an effective PK-er for years for Edmonton. He combined especially well with Eberle (I believe) for some shorties the past couple of seasons.

It would sure be nice Seguin-Eakin-Peverley-Horcoff is pretty damn good defensively. Nice to not have to see Fiddler stuck in his own zone all season.

Depends ... I'll run the numbers after we know all the pieces, but they are actually getting close to where we have to consider the cap ....

Are you serious? I'm a Dallas Stars fan right? Did I really get to say that in a non sarcastic way?

Team America ... F Yeah!!!!

Sounds like DAL and EDM still putting finishing touches on Horcoff deal and as @DarrenDreger reports, several pieces involved.

I kind of feel like we won't have any significant activity tomorrow after this trade (depending on the final deal).

Pipedream, but I'd be happy if Smid was somehow part of this deal too.

IDK ... unless another winger is coming back ... I do think they pursue a wing.

MPS would be great even though he's struggled. That would be a nice piece to get.

Nahh ... they just signed him. Most teams don't pull that move, and I think they really like what he brings to the table. He's one of the few nasty guys that sticks up for others on that team.

But Horcoff, who has a limited NTC, has been informed he's going to DAL.
