Neither of them played on their top line, top pair or #1 goalie. The core to me is the 5-6 players at the top of the depth chart. for the Habs that should be Galchenyuk Gallagher Collberg(??) Subban Tinordi/Beaulieu Price.

LA's core was Kopitar Brown Williams Doughty Quick and Greene. Only Williams was traded for. You can put Carter or Richards instead of Williams, it's still 5/6 drafted and developped...83%.

I don't agree with that definition of core.

A teams core has more to do with stability & leadership. It is the players that a team decides to build around regardless of what line they play on. Most often players that get important minutes.

Good money. Tough term for Dustin Brown. 8 years/5.75 M$ per.

Not bad for a guy who was as close to being traded away from the team as he came

Eh. Of all the people in the league to give 8 year deals to Brown isn't one that would pop into your head. 8 year deal to a guy who's going to be 30 when the contract starts.

Makes Patches contract look ingenious, given they play different styles of game.

Of course Carter and Richards were core players. And Greene was drafted by EDM.

He'll have to refine his game to continue being effective in 8 years. He can't keep hitting everything, even though that's part of who he is. He'll start breaking down, all players that play like that do.

Carter played 16 games with the Kings before their Cup run and he was a "core player" when they won a Cup...give me a break FFS.

Might as well call Jagr a core player for the Bruins last year and Iginla a core player for the Pens while you're at it.

I'll be honest, Pacioretty has a lot of things to learn before being even remotely close to a discount at his contract. His last playoffs disappointed me a lot for a guy who reportedly was saying he had something to prove. He just kept playing like he did in the regular season.

The "tethanos shot" story with Grabovski bittered me as well. **** and act like a man.

That's what a seperated shoulder will do to you.

I'm just going to go ahead and assume you didn't know he was playing with a separated shoulder.

Led our team in scoring 2 years in a row. Almost a point-per-game player. Cap hit is comparable to offensive machines like Ryan Malone, Brooks Laich, Martin Erat and Olli Jokinen.

"Not remotely close to a discount" because he played 4 games with a separated shoulder and got bit by Grabovski.

Classic.

Matt Duchene, 5 years at 30 M$, 6 M$. Good contract with great future value.

Not every injury is the same. There's a case to be made that Pacioretty should have had more rest than he had starting with the appendicitis surgery. But he did try to play though all of maladies that afflicted him, even though it hampered his play.

Some guys with 4.5 million dollar contracts or less aren't as productive as he is or much less consistent.

All good young players signed to long-term deals. So what the heck is the hold-up with Subban?

We needed to save the money for Desharnais and Drewiske's extensions.

Wellp, you dont know what "remotely close" means. 4.5 for a player like pacioretty is a STEAL and i cant believe its up for discussion at all. mind blowing.
