If Kessel was Canadian...

Would he make it on to the Sochi squad?

Of course. He's a top 10 scorer in the league. You need dynamic and creative scorers like him just as much as you need good 2 way players. See Patrick Kane - Conn Smythe.

Yes, leaving him off the team would be a mistake.

Canadians that have outscored Kessel over the past two years:

Stamkos
Giroux

Why should he make it over St. Louis, who puts up similar points totals and is a much better two-way player? It's not like Phil with his minute size advantage is actually more physical. Plus, St. Louis is a veteran with much stronger leadership abilities and winning pedigree. If Martin St. Louis doesn't get on the team, no way Phil would get there before him. It's just not right.

not a SINGLE PERSON in this thread has mentioned St. Louis in this thread of said kessel would make it over him?

I guess you just had a random thought of anger to put out.....

Btw pretty sure St Louis is a lock to make the team, so in the pretend world where Kessel is Canadian, it wouldnt be him he'd be taking a spot from.

Taylor Hall - Sidney Crosby - Phil Kessel
John Tavares - Claude Giroux - Rick Nash
Marty St. Louis - Steven Stamkos - Ryan Getzlaf
Eric Staal - Patrice Bergeron - Jonathan Toews

Drew Doughty - Shea Weber
Duncan Keith - Brent Seabrook
Kris Letang - Alex Pietrangelo
Dion Phaneuf/PK Subban

Bold prediction in net:

Jonathan Bernier
Mike Smith
Roberto Luongo

Speedy elite goal scorers are money on the larger, Olympic ice, so yes.

Definitely.

And that Hall - Crosby - Kessel line that is being floated around would be absolutely ridiculous

I like Bergeron, but I would take a younger, healthier Toews. Also did a hell of job at the 2010 games.

But for the OP, yes, Kessel would definitely make the national team if he were Canadian.

Uh, a lock? He didn't make it last time. Point being, Team Canada always goes for big, heavy grinder types and they also like centers. Heck, Brenden Morrow was on the 2010 team. Between the true locks like Crosby, Toews, Tavares, and so on, guys like St. Louis miss out. And St. Louis>Kessel

I am in support of repatriating Kessel to Canada so we can have the Hall-Crosby-Kessel line.
