Goalie prospect to Calgary

Someone like Jacob Markstrom, Robin Lehner, or Malcolm Subban.

I imagine it depends most entirely on the team's needs since they're all on different teams. Markstrom is probably really hard to let go of for the Panthers as well.

The Flames currently have several goaltending prospects they're trying to get sorted out and auditioned this season. It's probably the one position where they have enough to go around right now.

More glaring issues than goaltending

Flames are happy with what they have now. If in 2 or 3 years no one has distinguished themselves then they might look elsewhere.

Lehner is unavailable. Not even for an overpayment.

Yes Calgary has some goalie prospects...the problem being, none of them are very good! Lets face it, the Flames need desperate help at all positions......

No point in shoring up the goalie position, while the rest of the team is such a mess. A good goalie is a must, but goalies are the one position where star players become available regularly through trade or free agency. A team can only ever carry one starting goalie.

There's no urgency in this need from Calgary at all. They have a bunch of potential prospects they should look towards gauging before thinking of acquiring someone from outside the organization.

And, although none of Calgary's prospects are established yet in the NHL, several are very good as far as prospects go.

What would you compare Lehners potential to? A Lundqvist/Quick?

Isn't it cute when people think they know things about teams and don't.

Right now the Flames have

Jon Gillies, who one of the top NCAA goaltenders last year.
Laurent Brossoit, who was one of the top CHL goaltenders the last 2 years.
Joni Ortio, was was one of the top SM-liiga goaltenders last year.

the prospect pool is actually looking pretty decent.

and that is without considering that Ramo and Berra are still pretty young as well.

I'm fine with holding off and seeing how Gilles/Brossoit/Ortio do. I also want to see how Berra and Ramo adjust before trading for a goalie prospect.

Without a doubt he has top 10 potential. Imo he can be a top 5 goalie. He's already labeled the goalie of the future in ottawa. Unlimited potential.

Lehner's dad was Lundqvist's goalie coach and started coaching/training Lehner with a puck shooting machine(I think up too 100mph) when he was like 8.

Dominated the AHL and still great in the NHL so far.

Grabbing anyone of those guys might be worthwhile. They are all excellent goalie prospects.

But, it would be a lot to give up for an organisational strength they already possess.

Not to say it wouldn't happen, but it just seems unlikely. If they were to give up a first rounder, it would probably be a top five pick.

Maybe I shouldn't count out BB just yet though.

Wait, what's wrong with Gillies? He looked pretty capable with the US. If he hadn't been competing with Gibson, I would have had no problem with him as our starter for the WJCs.

I know you're mocking my post from the other thread (I said "arguably", not definitely), but keep showing your ignorance.

How many teams in the league have 3 goalie prospects the caliber of Gillies, Brossoit, and Ortio?

I'm not saying either of them are the best goalie prospect in the league, but that's a pretty damn fine set. You could also include Berra.

I find it hilarious that people come in here and tell us what we need and to give up good value for a(nother) good goaltending prospect. Baertschi for Lack, amirite?
