That would be ideal to me. Make an attempt to sign a puck moving defensemen, if that doesn't work out I don't want the Avs to chase the stay at home guys. I think I'm mostly alone on this one, but I'd like to see the Avs take a shot on Grabovski. He's a workhorse and can score. Only if he's willing to take a discount to play for his childhood team. If Grabo signs, ship out one of Stastny/Downie/McGinn for a defensemen.

Offer sheets up to 3.36M only give up a second round pick, and up to 5.04m only gives up a 1st and 3rd. There could be some interesting options there if the Avs strike out on a very few UFAs available... Weircioch, Hamonic, Brodie, Alzner, Gunnarsson...

So apparently if you read twitter every quality UFA is signing with the Leafs today.

They have a lot of cash and cap-space. I guess they are one of the biggest buyers. They will probably make some horrible contracts.

And on their board they discuss our centers once again.
They will never give up a 1st for that bum Stastny and they envision a trade revolving around JVR for Duchene...

I hope they sign Clarkson and Weiss for a combined 12 M....

Looks like they have a good shot at Scuderi though :/

@tsnscottcullen: A fun exercise: I've compiled #NHL Power Rankings, inserting replacement-level players into roster holes yet to be filled. Pre-UFA Ranks...

@tsnscottcullen: 1-CHI 2-PIT 3-OTT 4 LA 5-NYR 6-STL 7-MTL 8-WAS 9-BOS 10-TOR 11-PHI 12-ANA 13-SJ 14-TB 15-DET 16-CBJ...
@tsnscottcullen: ...17-DAL 18-VAN 19-PHX 20-CAR 21-NYI 22-WPG 23-MIN 24-EDM 25-NJ 26-CGY 27-NAS 28-COL 29-BUF 30-FLA

@tsnscottcullen: Obviously, teams with more roster spots to fill will find it easier to climb those rankings by adding established NHL talent in those spots.

LOL ... 28th, I don't think so

Colorado @ 28th is a joke. How is Calgary NOT IN LAST PLACE? They are the worst team in league for sure.

It appears Franson is on the block...

I'd trade for him!

He is probably on the block because he wants a ton of cash for his good offensive season. He is at best a middle pairing defender, and I think he is fringe at that. Won't be worth the money he is probably demanding.

Leafs have a problem with his contract? I doubt Avalanche wants another ROR in their hands.

1. Sign Grabovski to play wing.
2. Trade Statsny for Yandle.
3. ???
4. Profit

But seriously, would anyone take a chance on Mueller again? Seemed relatively healthy in Florida.

Well they did just add Jones and O'Brien. I mean they have to count for something, right?

Mueller is useless in fourth line. We have no need for him. Top-9 is full.

Revisiting Scuderi tweet from earlier. Now hearing he's likely going back to Pittsburgh. 3-4 years has been discussed. Around $3 mil per.

Haha, yeah they should count for the worst team in NHL. Calgary is re-building.

It would open up the ability to trade one of our C's(Stastny) though.

I personally would take Mueller or Grabovski on a 2-3 year deal. Then look to see what kind of value the Avs could get for Stastny or McPing.

Alfredsson told the Senators the decision was not based on money. He wants the chance to win a Stanley Cup before his career is over. #Sens

Ouch. Wonder what this does to his legacy.

I reckon it kinda depends on whether or not he gets that Cup.

he's likely going to the Wings so probably just enhances it. especially if he wins the cup. Babcock is a great coach but i probably take my chances in Ottawa over Detroit over the next 2 seasons if i was him.
no issue with him going there though. he's given everything to Ottawa and he wants to go to a franchise with a championship pedigree.
