Yes. I have little faith in management based on moves so far and hope they prove me wrong but don't expect it.

Strange that Bergevin is not even able to get 2 full years before we already pencil him as a disspointement, and yet some in here were still hoping Gainey and even Gauthier would stick around and have more time....Let's put it on the people just being fed up with the lack of progression from the past 20 years than from the Bergevin's work itself....

Point is, only having 5 mill in space does not preclude any moves today.

Not sure if I understand? Emelin is a top4 dman. We need someone to fill his spot. Are you saying Emelin is a 7th dman?

I think you're right. The team has not been consistently successful and therefore this type of animosity gets built up.

Plus, we've seen that this "5 year plan" thing is no guarantee of success.

I think he means that our 5-6 D will move up and one of the 7 D will move up and so on.

He just reminds me of the same crap Gainey used to do. Senseless moves to appease fans.

If the Habs can come away today or over the next few days with a few depth FA signings to add soome more grit/character in their bottom 6 and especially for their defense

I'll be very happy...i'm not as livid as most with the Brière signing. It's fine with me, as long as other moves are made

And I can't convince myself that Bergevin (and his staff which includes guys like Mellanby, Dudley, Churla, Lapointe, etc) don't see the obvious deficiencies that everyone else does.

I think they will probably stand pat. I'm personally all for scraping the ceiling on the salary cap and going after another d-man like Scuderi. But there aren't (m)any fallbacks to that option, and real NHL GMs like to leave themselves a little wiggle room on the cap rather than using their bonus cushion and projecting IR moves and all that.

The Habs talked to the other FA forwards this week, found out that nobody would sign with us on "sane" terms, and that's really the only explanation for the Briere signing. Briere > nothing, and they already knew nothing was the only alternative.

So standing pat today ought to be the default expectation.

The rumor is that MB has a few trades he is working on. I listened to Therrien on RDS yesterday and he stated that the Habs are working on things to improve the team.

That doesn't sound like to me a coach that wants to go into 2013/2014 with the same team.

And working on things implies to me, trades. But hey i have been wrong before, just ask my ex wife.

I wouldn't be surprised if MB threw an offer sheet at Daniel Bang.

@TSNBobMcKenzie. Already talk of offer sheets among teams with space. Pietrangelo, Bogosian, Little, Bailey, Henrique, Hamonic...

Habs should wait frankly. There are teams that are going to have serious cap issues because of today. Maybe we can get Talbot out of the Flyers - he replaces Armstrong. Blues might go over board with signings if they're looking at both Iginla and Weiss maybe they give away Perron seeing how they'd probably want to trade him out of conference.

Just need some patience. Teams may give away draft picks just to get rid of guys.

MB knows that the Briere move wasn't popular, it wasn't made to appease fans.

#Habs GM Marc Bergevin has told me he respects fans but doesn't listen to them for unemotional counsel. Can't understand why, frankly...

Bergevin's plan is to be competitive in 2 years. When Gionta, Markov, Briere, Bourque are off the books. Most of our draftees will be ready. Galchenyuk will be elite. Subban in his prime. And we will have two more summers to gain players from trade and UFAs.
What we need his time. We wont be winning this year. But it will come.

Our center line will be good in 2 years :

Galchenyuk
Eller
Plekanec

Our leftwingers (minus new additions) :

Pacioretty
Prust

Rightwinger (minus new additions) :

Gallagher
Collberg
McCaron

Defenceman (minus new additions) :

Subban
Emelin
Beaulieu
Tinordi

We need a couple more pieces. But we have 2 years to add them.

Awards:
Both McKenzie and Dreger speculating offer sheets could play a big part. Maybe trying to drum up interest in TSN's broadcasts, maybe truthful...will be interesting to see. Good year to not have Subban still out there as an RFA, I suppose.

With all of this talk of DD or Plekanec being traded to St Louis, what would we have to give up to get our hands on Dmitri Jaskin?

Jaskin was a man amongst boys in the Q last season and no doubt is one of St Louis top prospects. I would love to see him in the CH.

HABS LIKELY TO PURSUE TRADE MARKET
TheFourthPeriod.com

The Montreal Canadiens, having already signed forward Danny Briere yesterday, are believed to be scouring the trade market more so than the free agent market.
Habs GM Marc Bergevin would like to add another top-six winger, but does not appear interested in overpaying via free agency.

Not expected to do much could simply mean not expected to be after the "big fish". I still expect them to sign a 4th liner and defenceman.

The Habs are not trading Pleks for prospects. Just think about it one second.
