ugh I really hoped it would actually come down to this. Worst news of the offseason yet.

That's pretty disappointing, but I hope it allows him to reclaim his game. Welp, nothing but to move on at this point and hope he decides to come back.

yah really frustrating to see a player with so much potential and actual skill/impact to be lost due to what generally constitutes 1 part bad luck and 1 part bizarre coaching decisions.

I ****ing hate Noel right now. Not impressed.

I'd honestly rather him go to the KHL and improve his value so we can get something if he wants to come back to the NHL than to trade him for scraps right now.

Least surprising news of the summer....

THIS is why no one drafts Russians, folks.

I definitely feel vindicated in believing this was a possibility all along. I would have been just fine being wrong though...

Who knows, maybe Burmi has a couple great years in Russia and finds his game and comes back one day. Doubtful, but might as well look at the bright side.

Should have dumped him for a second rounder while we had the chance though.

I'm assuming no one is delusional enough anymore to think we could get a first rounder for him.

Good riddance! If anything playing on the bigger ice will further reinforce his bad habits and propensity to over-handle the puck.

In terms of rights, do the Jets have any claims left to him if he returns?

As of now pretty much all of the Jets eggs are in the Scheifele basket.

Contenders are built down the middle and the Jets lost a possible long term player there. Even if he was a lotto ticket to be an impact player, I'd rather have 2 lotto tickets than one (Scheifele).

And it finally put to bed that constant niggling rumour, one way or another. Now, the only off ice distractions we have are Kane's twitter and Buff's weight.

Burmi to KHL

KHL has already put out a press release regarding the move.

Jets retain his rights when/if he returns to the NHL.

He'll now be an RFA of the Jets organisation until he turns 27. The other qualifier for UFA status is if he plays 7 years in the NHL, which he didn't do.

Well, now Scheifele has his shot at the top 6 or top 9. His to lose.

They hold his rights until he's 27 I believe.

Is this confirmed yet? All I see is the one Igor Eronko tweet (which has been referenced by Sara Orleski)?

Could still be a negotiating play. I'd hate to see him go to the KHL, think it would hurt his NHL development if he were to try and return.

Dont wanna play here? Then good riddance.

Don't understand why everyone else is getting the blaim. Burmi is the one with the bad attitude and the one lacking proffessionalism here. Hope we stay away from signing Russians. There's a reason Stanley Cup winners are loaded up with home grown players.

There is a press release from the KHL's website, so I'd say it's pretty official.

Edit: And Chevy has confirmed it.

at least we'll have 2 rookie forwards in our opening night line-up and not a rookie-brained forward.

i welcome two of O'Dell/Scheif/Lowry to the team.

X2 that's exactly what I'm thinking. What if he doesn't get along with that coach either and finally realizes he needs to listen.

edit: I was actually hoping this would happen, as it frees up space on the 3rd line. We can slot in someone cheaper on an ELC who is more effective. Hopefully Burmi comes back as a top 6 player in 2 years.

Don't see how you can legitimately blame this on Noel. Looks like you are looking for a cop-out to protect Burmi. Fact is, he made this choice himself by refusing to buy into a coach's system and failing to turn criticism into motivation to improve his overall game. If he really wanted to play in the NHL, he would have tried to force Chevy's hand for a trade, so it looks like he has given up on playing in the NHL for awhile.

I'm really saddened by his decision, but it's clear that Burmi was probably never going to reach his offensive potential in the NHL. He couldn't even translate offense at the AHL level with a different coach. That's not to say he is a useful player. He was a good bottom six forward that could slot into the top six if needed. Looks like the Frolik trade is even more important now.

It's possible that there is an NHL out clause in his KHL contract and it's also possible that the Jets management knew about and supported this move (let him develop there rather than toil in Noel's doghouse). Like Huffer said, I'd much rather this happen than trade him for pennies on the dollar.
