Thoughts on a Pietrangelo Offer Sheet?

Seems like it would fit the mold of Nill's big, bold moves this week...would be risking future first round picks for a proven, top-pairing defenseman who just happens to be 23 years old. Would certainly spark a rivalry with our new division rivals.

I say move Daley, Rome, Cole and maybe Fiddler's contracts .... offer sheet Pietrangelo, sign Iginla to a 3 year deal, sign Scuderi and sign Dan Ellis

Benn/Seguin/Iginla
Whitney/Peverly/Chiasson
Eakin/Nich
Roussel/Horcoff/Garbutt

Pietrangelo/Goose/Dillon/Robidas/Connauton/Gonchar/Benn

Kari
Dan Ellis

I don't think offer sheets are how Nill would like to function. Detroit is just about the last team you'd expect an offer sheet from, and I think that applies to Nill.

That being said, an offer sheet would be having to give up 4 first round picks to get Piets

Would you trade Nichushkin + Faksa + Oleksiak + Campbell for Piets? Maybe you do, maybe you don't. That's the risk. Those picks could be in the 20's if we had a true #1D.

There is no downside to trying. If it works out, they get the best d-man this team has seen in years.

$6,728,781 max would result in giving up a 1st, 2nd and 3rd

6,728,781 to $8,410,976 would result in 2 1sts, 2nd, and a 3rd

You think St. Louis matches either one of those?

I think STL matches nearly anything. I'd be ok with trading 2 1st + 2nd + 3rd for Piets, so I guess do it, and see if STL matches.

Given how well stocked we are prospect wise it would be worth a shot.

A "lot"? I doubt that. He can complement the 3rd line with Pevs and Eakin, but I can find guys who can do that for a lot cheaper. Then again, I'm assuming his scoring is never going to match that 30+ goal aberration from 2 seasons ago.

I would much rather Cole's 4.5 million go towards a 23 year old top-pairing defenseman in Pietrangelo

Why not? Pietrangelo would instantly be the best d-man on the team and would solve a problem the Stars have been trying to fix for years.

While I think St. Louis would match anything, I'd say give it a shot. 7 yrs/58 million(8.2 cap hit). And frontload the hell out of it as best you are allowed to under the CBA. See if St. Louis is willing to pay him 12 million dollars the first year.

Don't think Nill is going to completely cut off contact with a team, no matter how badly we could use the player. Offer-sheets are a pretty serious thing within the front office, and I know they're not taken lightly. It's why you won't San Jose and Chicago make any trades, or Philadelphia and Nashville. It really destroys the relationship between GMs.

I'd absolutely love Pietrangelo though.

It's called "vengeance." No such thing as "karma."

That doesn't seem like a very Nill thing to do.

What could we offer that Blues are not going to match?

Absolutely, I'd do 2 1sts, a 2nd, and a 3rd for Pietrangelo without thinking twice.
