On EHM 05 Benoit was a beast! Just thought I would included that since nobody else has.

LOL, this trade is so important that it's about to fall off of the first page of the Trade board.

I'm hoping you're right, but it's also very possible that we enter the season with those 7 defensemen on the NHL roster.
Well, that's very true. Hmm, I'd hope that they don't head into the season with that D, even if EJ and Barrie have career years and Wilson manages to stay healthy, it's still not the greatest and could use another top-4 guy.

I feel like Wilson always plays his best hockey when he's playing 3rd pairing minutes, so signing or trading for a guy to play next to EJ and bumping him to pair up with Sarich would be ideal.

I know this isn't a popular opinion on these boards, but Hunwick is a decent bottom pairing defenseman. Too bad he played over 20 mins per game in Denver.

Our d-corp is made up of a bunch of solid #3-6 guys and young PMD's with tons of upside that every team needs.

Unfortunately we are still looking for our #1 for Johnson's #2.

Just looking through his stats... he's excelled at every level and looks to be a playoff performer. Maybe if given the right time or opportunity he could blossom. Or not, then it's only one year for less than a million.

He may not be that partner for EJ, but it's a savvy pick at a low price that does address a need for offense from the blueline.

That's seriously a ballsy thing of them to say if a 29 year old journey man with 41 NHL games and 11 points is their only signing.

If he's so good why didn't the team that's most familiar with him, and also plays an offensive style in Ottawa (20th on PP) keep him for one year at $900k?

It's a nice change, at least it is not a slow immovable defender that can't pass the puck.

Because for left handed defensemen, they have Methot, Cowen, Wiercioch, Phillips and Borowiecki coming up. No room for him.

A clever, playmaking defenseman with a great shot. Benoit is an offence-minded defender who is excellent on the power play. His passing is of a very high standard.

I don't understand why everyone is hating this signing. Every Sens fans said he's a very solid bottom pairing defenseman, it's a depth signing. Sure he isn't Scuderi, Hainsey, etc., but it's a solid signing nonetheless.

I'm sure if the right deal comes up for a top 4 defender, they'll do the deal and bury Hunny in the minors.

Depth signings are great when you have a good or great D unit, and you're adding depth.

They're not that great when they look like they could be your only move for a terrible D unit.

How does one depth signing make you assume this could be our only move?

Because Joe and Patrick have been been trying to warn fans they might not do much of anything this summer.

I didn't make an assumption, I said it looks that way based on what's happened and what they've said. I'd love for them to surprise us and pull a Coburn trade out of a hat, but I'm not holding my breath.

The only assumption being made right now is that they will make a deal for a top four D, and this will fall into the category of a good depth signing.

Honestly didn't know who he was, but a quick scan of Youtube reveals him to be a decent offensive player.

If Joe/Patrick like him that is good enough for me. I expect him to play around 60 games and be used a bit on the power play.

I really wish we would make a trade for a legit top 4 guy...but this sounds like they want to wait til next year when the FA class is stronger or wait til the deadline to allow guys (Stastny?) to gain value to get that D-man.

That said, sounds like this guy is a slight upgrade on Hunwick and a major upgrade over Zanon. Hopefully this will help our offensive output from the blueline a bit.
