Good on JD for nicely calling those guys jackasses. I was watching that Friday and I didn't get the vibe that they were talking about the club. They were talking about the city and JD called them out on it. I've been all over the USA, all the major cities and frankly I wouldn't take any of them over Columbus.

Jackets needed another reliable scorer and all around player. Team looks ready for the playoffs.

The Jackets continue to get better. I think they're going to make some noise this year.

I was rooting for the Jackets down the stretch last season, will definitely be keeping an eye on them this year, especially with Horton joining the fold.

I've spent a fair amount of time in Columbus on business. Nice people and it seems like a nice way of life. It's not for me, but that's mainly because I couldn't imagine not living near the ocean.

People who call out other cities or locations as somehow less than, should just shut the hell up. Since they don't live there and probably aren't tour directors, I can't imagine anyone cares about their opinion.

I wish NH all good luck. He was good for Boston and seems like a genuinely nice guy. Hope he enjoys Columbus. Life is short..... pick what's best for you and your family and go for it.

It CAN be. Most people in the city feel this unmistakeable draw to life out in the country.

See, THAT is understandable. It can't offer something you consider important. I would rule it out too if that was my desire.

There are only 7 cities in the US that have hockey teams that are larger than Columbus. It's a big damn city. Saying it's a small town is just ignorance.

Enh. It probably doesn't help that folks here are very very proud of that whole "giant-scale small town" culture and go to great lengths to preserve it.

What is wrong with that? I don't get it, never have and probably never will.

Believe it or not, the Columbus Zoo is widely regarded as one of the best in the country, if not the world. Knowing that Horton is a family man, it's easy to see why they took him and his family to the zoo. Columbus is a great place to raise a family, especially if you have money. There are a handful of wealthy suburbs that offer great education. And his family being happy is probably what makes him happy.

I've lived in Columbus for basically my whole life, and I have a love/hate relationship with the city. The hate comes from Ohio State and the overbearingness that it has – the crowds around campus, the ego, the endless supply of frat boys and empty Bud light cans in the street, etc. But Columbus has so much to offer. I'm a musician and an artist oddly enough, and the scene for that in Columbus has shocked me in the past two years as to how prolific it is. I personally believe that if OSU didn't have the notoriety that it does, Columbus would be known around the country as an art haven. But in regards to OSU, you live and die by the sword – none of the great art or music would even exist if it wasn't for OSU.

Well that's my rant about my city. I urge people to get over the cowtown stigma, but honestly I don't give a ****. Columbus is a very well-kept secret, so stay the hell away

Good luck Horton, good luck Columbus. That's a darn long contract though. Wow.

7 years...can I make a joke about how long it takes him to release his shot?

I'm sure Columbus is a fine place (sure as hell beats the dump that is Detroit), but 7 years is a long ass time for a guy that is one sniffle away from permanent brain damage.

Columbus is gambling big time with that contract. But hey, the guy wanted to end his career in a place no one will recognize him in, ammirite?

Hot wife though. Oh the bonus of being a hockey player!

Yeah I don't think you'll find anyone who thinks 7 years isn't too long.

That said, it's better to have too many years than too high of a salary. Years are easily remedied, cap hit isn't. It used to be that you would be stuck with a contract for its duration. Nowadays, if he is perennially injured a 7 year contract can be gone in less than 4.

The Columbus Zoo has a similar site in the old coal field east of town:

Not exactly, he just want a place where people who recognize him don't aggressively accost him. People around here will surely recognize him (and aren't likely to miss his wife!), but will smile, nod, and go about their business. I think it's a mix of Midwestern manners and something of an "I don't care how important you think you are" attitude.

Opinions vary.

According to USA Travel Guide San Diego's fine zoo is #2. Columbus is #1 in their ranking.

http://www.wrsol.com/usatravelguide/...zoosinamerica/

American Live Wire ranks San Diego #1 and Columbus #2 in the US.

http://americanlivewire.com/best-zoos-in-america/

The Travel Channel doesn't seem to rank zoos, they just name a top 5 and both Columbus and San Diego are on their list.

http://www.travelchannel.com/interes...s-wildest-zoos

If Nathan Horton and the Horton family is into zoos, Columbus is among the best places for this.

http://www.travelchannel.com/interes...s-wildest-zoos

The reality is Davidson is correct on this count, Steve Simmons and some of the TSN clown boys exposed themselves as ignorant fools on the free agent day show.

I think I will go listen to my numerous recordings of Brian Burke calling Steve Simmons an idiot in his media scrums.

Well, there's one thing that's beyond dispute. Among cities with NHL teams, our zoo is the best.

Of course, one of the biggest donors to the Columbus Zoo was the late John H. McConnell. (For those not aware, the founder of the CBJ)

So, all we need to do is focus on top hockey players with an interest in zoos. Success will be right around the corner.
