Flyers winning %

I was hoping for some help and if anyone has any links or feels like researching this I would be much obliged.

I was wondering over the last 25 years what the Flyers winning % is and where they stack up against: a) the other NHL teams b) where they place against all the other teams from the 4 major sports c) what is the % compared to other Philly teams?

Any help is appreciated.

I don't think anyone here has to look up the fact that compared to the other 3 Philly teams, the Eagles, Phillies and Sixers aren't even close.

Depends on the years looked at. The Eagles are far ahead of the Flyers in winning percent over the last three or four seasons.

He said 25 years...going back to 1980. For a large part of the mid 80's and mid-90's the Eagles were nothing better than mediocre. The Sixers were ok, they were making the playoffs, but they were constantly doing it as 6 seeds towards the end of the 80's (they won the division in 90 I think) but then in the 90's the Sixers also were terrible, i think they missed the playoffs 6 straight years. Even when the Flyers were missing the playoffs they were coming close to being .500 a few of those years they missed the playoffs by a few points.

if I were to guess, and not look, in Philly over the last 25 years it would read

Flyers
Sixers
Eagles

I seem to recall ESPN released the winning percentages of each major professional sports team since it has been on the air (1979-2004 maybe?) and that it was posted somewhere on these boards.

my friend from college ... who was mildly insane ... had a DB of every professional sports team (including european soccer) w/ their win %.

Flyers are second in NHL history in Win % behind the Canadiens the last I saw... and it would take a LOT for us to pass them anytime soon.

Still something to be proud of IMO...

Couldn't ask for anything better besides a Cup. I mean we have seen our team win more than any other team in the last 25 years.

Heck the Flyers could have won 99% of their games but a cup is all that matters

It's only getting better too. Hitchcock has had only one season that he's coached where his winning percentage has been under fifty.

How would you get a winning percentage if teams would tie?

A tie would count against the winning percentage.

Mathematically? I think this is the proper method: If a team has a 2-1-1 record, the winning percentage would be .625. Count the total number of games (4) and divide it into 2.5 (a tie counts as a half of a win).

A 3-1-0 record would be a % of .750.
A 2-2-0 record would be a % of .500.
A 2-1-1 record would be a % of .625.
