I hope this isn't our answer to the 3rd line center position...

Why do you say that? Was on pace for 12g12a, is a solid PK player, and was only minus 1. He's a solid two way player.

Sobotka is better than that.

Because a 3rd line player is an offensive position. He's on a line with borderline top 6 wingers.

He's a 4th line option. That's all.

I really don't see him as our 3rd line center or even playing much I think he's press box depth. Sobotka is a much better option as 3rd line center our 4th line was good in the LA series. It's just a depth signing nothing more nothing less.

Speaking of sobotka, isn't he our 3rd line winger?

So he's our 4th line center, fine by me.

He's a good 4th liner, there's a reason he spends a lot of time on his NHL affiliate teams.
I watched a majority of the Isles games last year, he's a good fill in guy for the 4th line, but he wouldn't be a good fit for the 3rd line.

If we didn't have the CPR line setup, I'd be very happy to have him filling the 4th line spot but that isn't the case.

He is our 4th line center/winger.

Signed to a one way deal.

You are missing my point. It doesn't fill our need at all... And I'm hoping he'll be a fill-in so we can keep our 4th line intact as I'd much prefer that.

What was our "need"?

He's gonna platoon with the CPR line players.

2nd/3rd line center. He is not ideal for that spot.

They're gonna team him up with Calgary's 5th round pick in the better than nothing, just there as insurance line.

Do you follow the fact that we could use 2 centers?

Teams need more than just 12 forwards.

Stockpiling 4th line centers doesn't help us. We have plenty of forwards and depth. What we don't have is an actual 2nd/3rd line center who can win faceoffs. Aucoin is basically D'agostini in the center position. Not only did we have a full roster this year, we have prospects to try out.

It's seems pretty obvious to me that the role they want Aucoin to fill is Nichols which is a fill-in for injuries.

After Nichol and Mcdonald left it leaves us with a lack of forwards. Unless Jaskin or Rattie is guaranteed a spot we needed to sign 2 players.

I'd say Jaskin is ready, Rattie might be alright for a few games but isn't quite there yet.

If we could sign or trade for a top 9 centre, we'd fill the two lost spots. I never said we shouldn't have signed him in the first place, I just said I hoped the intentions weren't for him to fill the top 9 centre role or take over the CPR line. I don't mind him being our fill-in.

What do you define as "fill in"??

Aucoin won't play every game, and likely will platoon with the CPR line.

It's pretty self explanatory. If a player gets injured he either fills that role or fills the players roll who replaces the injured player.

Aucoin is the 13th forward. Doubt he sees the 4th line often and doubt he ever makes it to the 3rd line unless he has another gear and suddenly gets better.

He's a fill-in.

Cracknell is our #4C.

Cracknell? Or do you mean Porter?

I'd say the 4th line is yet to be determined, based on whoever is playing the best from among:
Reaves, Cracknell, Porter, Aucoin and Lapierre. Remember, Cracknell started the year in Peoria. He really doesn't have the foot speed that I'd want to count on him as the starter for 82 games. I think he makes the most of the tools he has, but its not like the Blues would have a hard time upgrading at that position.

I had thought maybe Sobotka would move down to the 4th line. If so, that means one of the above players is in the minors.

I'm pretty curious how Hitchcock builds his team out of this. As much as I was hoping for Grabovski (from among the crop that was out there) I think the Blues will have to trade a winger for a top 6 center, due to Cap constraints. Signing Grabovski seems vanishingly likely now, but Armstrong has a way of surprising me. Maybe if Halak goes for futures there's still room (assuming Pietro/Stewart deals).

Has this been confirmed as a 1-way contract?
