Silf is a left winger who shoots left, he'd be my first choice to play with the twins, put Palms on his natural wing on the second line.
Anyways, I like the return, I think Silf will provide most of the scoring we lost with Ryan, as well as end up a better fit with the twins because of the fact that he shoots left and plays with more jam. Noesen and the first are both extremely nice assets that will either become good players for us, or can be used in a trade to acquire something we're missing.
Really thought we would have traded him for players that can help the team right away, all the players and management seemed to think we were close to being a contender again.
If this is a for salary cap room why? Hiller makes 1 million less. I'm pretty sad about this trade. It feels like the summer we traded Pronger to make room sign that "2C". I said all summer long we would be better with Ebbet and Pronger than Koivu, and I think that statement still is true.
If we don't make a splash for another big forward than I just don't understand how this helps the team next season.
Sens fan here. Giving you a heads up of what you got in return for Ryan:
Silfverberg: Excellent 2-way player. Had a better rookie year than Zibanejad, but he is 2 years older. He`s definitely a top 6 player, but still not sure if he can pan out as a legit top 3. He doesn't have top speed or top puck handling abilities, but when he's on ice, you'll notice how he works hard. He kind of reminds me of a younger version of Alfie.
Noesen: Murray once compared him to Perry, but I personally think the comparisons end there. Still too early to tell what potential Noesen has.
A lot of Ottawa fans are complaining right now about losing Silfverberg, even if we acquired Ryan. That says a lot about how Silfverberg plays!
You guys are going to love Silf. Good size and speed - his biggest asset though is his shot... It's an absolute bullet. Go look at his shootout goal against Lundquist this past year.
When I heard Ryan was coming to Ottawa my initial reaction was "Awesome - so long as we don't give up Zibanejad or Silfverberg". I think I'll become ok with it over time though... But Silf is a real raw young talent who is only going to get better.
Let me just say this. In Silfverberg's last year in the Swedish league. His team was winning 3-0 in the finals and he scored 2 goals and hit the post in overtime shot which almost got the team a sweep and hattrick to end it yet he still scored game winner in game 6. He is an amazing player.
He was compared to Forsberg in those playoffs because his dominance was unheard of for a while. He is also the youngest to win MVP since Forsberg.
His potential is incredibly high. His release is also best in the league, imo.
I remember in the 2011 draft, you guys really loved Noesen, so it doesn't surprise me he was included in the deal.
Noesen is going to be a good one. He's big, strong, gritty, competitive and has the talent to put up points at the NHL level. Should become one of the better forwards in front of the net in terms of tipping shots, and could carve out a niche as a complimentary power winger to a skilled 2nd line center.
EDIT: Don't buy into the hype some Sens fans will try to sell to you about Silfverberg. He's not that special, could be a good 2nd line winger for a long time, but is not Forsberg, Alfie, Eriksson or anything of the sort.
I'm disappointed we did not get a more NHL proven return. That said it sounds like if we were going more towards youth then this package is looking pretty good.
From the reports I read here Silf may be the exact replacement I previously said could be an upgrade over Bobby. That is, a few less goals but a better two way and all around player who perhaps helps bring out more in his teammates because of his play.
Wonder if Noesen will make it out for the public sessions tomorrow and/or Sunday?
Oh, and the best part of this deal? It's not with Philly! WAAAAA! WAAAAA! "Coburn and the 11th is way better than what you got!" WAAAAA! WAAAAA!
