What this poster doesn't seem to understand is that it's not a question of what I want or what he wants. The decision will be made in a boardroom filled with insurers, re-insurers, underwriters, risk analysts, owners and their lawyers. And if they decide the financial risks associated with retaining fighting (and the costs of insuring against such risks) exceed the benefits from fighting, it is almost a certainty that fighting will be removed from the game. The world is far too litigious for them not to act in a defensive manner. Where all sports are taking material steps to promote safety and, in particular, to reduce the chances for head injuries, how can anyone condone an element of the sport that allows two grown men to strike each other in the head with their bare fists? And at the colossal risk of a five minute penalty. It's a form of willful blindness if not collective insanity. In twenty five years from now people will look back at us with respect to the issue of fighting in disbelief and properly view us savages. Not much different than how we now view coaches of forty years ago who actually discouraged their goalies from wearing masks.

We didn't have so much animosity with the Bruins last season at all. More with Ottawa and the Leafs. I don't think there was much bad blood in 2011-2012 either.

But seriously man, Laraques has not been in the NHL for years now. He was horrible last time, and he undermined the management (even if we didn't like the management) by being a big mouth to the media.

I'm baffled people are comparing this to the acquisition of BGL by Gainey.

Chronically injured and past his prime BGL was signed 1.5m for 3 years (the cap was lower then, so this was BAD).

Parros is signed for just one more year at a very manageable 900k. We gave up nothing to acquire him. In fact this is almost better than acquiring him as a FA since by trading Lefebvre he does not take a place on our contract limit.

The ******* whiners need a smack on the head, especially the whiners who were also complaining all season long that we desperately needed an enforcer.

Gino Odjick is probably in better game shape. Seriously, BGL? Can he even skate anymore?

Nice low risk signing; the dude has a lot of character. Not much to complain about at such a low acquisition cost.

Maybe they'd dislike him less if he hadn't been played the entire season.

I wish them the best of luck with Philippe Lefebvre. I also wish them the best of luck to actually understand what hockey is all about.

Man, it's gonna be real fun for a guy like Gudbranson to be this team's babysitter going forward...

We just replaced Armstrong (great in the room, great teammate) by a guy who is essentially the same, but can fight and protect his teammates. We'll need him against Toronto and Ottawa... and Boston.

Why the moaning? Bergevin didn't do anything spectacular but he didn't make the Habs worse. He didn't trade away or waive any valuable players and he got rid of dead wood. Apparently he felt that the prospects would make the Habs better and he hoped that Briere has something left. Parros may not be the NHL heavyweight champion but he cost very little and the Habs don't have anyone else to do the dirty work. And let's not forget that eventually Emelin will return to make the D more physical. The possibility of future personnel moves is still open.

The Bruins acquired Iginla and Ericksson but lost Jagr, Horton, Seguin, Ference, and Khodobin.

I see the acquisition of Parros as similar to the acquisition of Briere. It's a start and he mainly will serve as a short term PARTIAL solution to an obvious need for the Habs. Both buy some time for Bergevin to address those needs in a more complete or long term fashion without being pressured into trading from a position of weakness. It allows him to address the "toughness" issue on a more long term and effective and sustainable basis by permitting prospects to develop and perhaps making future trades for players like Chris Stewart. Good acquistion by Bergevin and virtually no cost to the team. My 2 cents.

Signing Parros looks like a patchwork attempt at fulfilling a concept by Bergevin.

It's "Rent-A-Goon" for $937K, a 22 year old forward who really can't play, will average around 5 mins a game and averages 1 goal and 1 assist all season. He had a -15 +/- record last year.

Obviously he is just a one year stop gap, and granted they got him for absolutely nothing, but I do think MB could have found a younger big guy who will fight but with more (at least some) talent to fill the spot. Maybe even finding a diamond in the rough that might help a bit longer, but Parros is purely a "disposable" player.

The Panthers have fans?
Do they buy season tickets or wait until the team charges 99 cents for upper level seats?
